MUNCIE, Ind. - A pair of Bowling Green State University standouts have been named to the 2005 All-Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Team. Senior Susie Schoenberger was named to the All-MAC First Team, while sophomore Ashley Jakupcin earned all-league second-team honors. The team was announced Thursday night (April 28) at the MAC Championships Banquet, held on the campus of Ball State University.
Schoenberger, a native of Upper Arlington, Ohio (Upper Arlington HS), becomes the first Falcon in eight years to earn All-MAC First-Team laurels. Deidee Bissinger and Cindy Mikolajewski each were named to the first team in the 1996-97 season.
Both Schoenberger and Jakupcin (Dublin, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) earn all-league honors for the first time in their respective careers.
Schoenberger has played at the number-one singles flight in all but one dual match this season, going 11-9. Her 15-14 singles record for the season includes a 4-5 mark -- all at the top flight -- in MAC play. A team co-captain, she has played all nine MAC doubles matches at the #1 flight as well, and has a total of 29 combined wins this season.

On the second team, Jakupcin was joined by Cassie Drake of Northern Illinois, Marshall's Lille Nzudie, Miami's Linda Jirouskova, WMU's Malena Remynse and UB's Miglena Nenova.

Voted on by the student-athletes, the award is presented to the player who has displayed outstanding sportsmanship in MAC competition.
The Falcons of head coach Penny Dean, 12-9 overall, will play in Friday's (April 29) MAC Championships quarterfinal round. BGSU, seeded fifth for the 10-team tournament, will face fourth-seeded EMU in a match scheduled for 10:00 a.m. locally (11:00 a.m. Eastern Time) at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center in Muncie.
