Falcon Comebacks Pace BGSU to 9-8 Win in Extra Innings

Bowling Green, Ohio - The third Bowling Green comeback proved to be the difference maker as the Falcons plated two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat visiting Central Michigan, 9-8, in game one of a doubleheader at Warren Steller Field. Senior Andy Hudak ripped a one-out double to right field that brought home Nolan Reimold all the way from first base for the game-winning run.
That completed BGSU's third comeback of the game against the Chippewas, bouncing back from a 3-1, 7-5, and 8-7 deficits. Sophomore Eric Lawson led off the 10th inning with a walk, moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Kurt Wells, and then came home on a RBI-single via Reimold, setting up Hudak's heroics.
BGSU scored first in the first inning with an RBI-single from Hudak, scoring Reimold. However, CMU plated three runs in the second inning for a 3-1 lead. BGSU cut into the deficit with a run in the fifth inning then took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Hudak hit a two-run homer and Tyler Wasserman hit a RBI-double to put BGSU up, 5-4.
CMU answered with three runs of their own in the top of the eighth inning for a 7-5 advantage. In the bottom of the ninth, Hudak led off with a walk and came home on Jeff Warnock's home run to right field, his first of the season, tying the score at 7-7.
Still, CMU scored a run in the top of the 10th setting up the dramatic bottom half of the inning. Hudak finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Reimold finished 3-for-6 and Warnock was 2-for-4. Each team had 14 hits apiece.
Senior Matt Hundley pitched the final three innings of the game, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits while walking none and striking out three. CMU's Nathan Pung (2-1) picked up the loss, surrendering the final two runs.
BGSU improved to 16-6 overall and 2-3 in the MAC while CMU dropped to 15-9 overall and 0-2 in the MAC.
