BGSU Drops 13-8 Decision at Wright State

Dayton, Ohio - Bowling Green dropped a 13-8 decision to Wright State on Wednesday night in Dayton, Ohio. The Raiders plated six runs in the second inning and never looked back, snapping BGSU's five-game winning streak.
In the second frame, the Raiders collected four hits while having two batters hit and receiving one base-on-balls by Falcon starter Adam Gumpf (3-1). The sophomore suffered the loss, lasting 1.1 innings and allowing six runs.
Reliever Greg Mentrek entered in relief and allowed two runs in the third inning, giving host WSU an 8-0 lead after three innings. BGSU finally got on the board in the fourth inning on a Josh Stewart solo home run, his fourth of the season, making it 8-1.
WSU increased it to 9-1 in the fifth inning before BGSU plated four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Nolan Reimold led off with a walk and two outs later Jay Threet was hit by a pitch. Josh Dietz then pinch hit and singled down the right-field line, scoring Reimold. Then, Jimmy Lipari pinch hit and smacked a three-run home run, his first of the season, making it a 9-5 ball game.
However, WSU responded with four runs of their own in the home half of the sixth inning, increasing its lead to 13-5.
The Falcons scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning, one off a Jesse Sobol single and two off Josh Dietz' first career triple. But, BGSU could not get any closer.
WSU improved to 11-14 overall while BGSU dropped to 18-7. Ross Vagedes (2-0) earned the win, lasting five innings and allowing one run on three hits. WSU held a 16-10 advantage in hits while BGSU stranded nine and the Raiders left eight on base.
Stewart was 3-for-4 while Dietz finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Falcons.
BGSU next hosts the University at Buffalo this weekend, April 8-10, at Warren Steller Field for a Mid-American Conference series. Friday's game is scheduled for 3 p.m. while Saturday's and Sunday's games are slated for 1 p.m. starts.
