Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green completed a three-game sweep of visiting Toledo on Sunday with a 9-2 victory at Warren Steller Field. It was "Senior Day" for BGSU and the senior class came through.
Senior Burke Badenhop (9-2) tied a season-high with nine strikeouts and allowed just two runs in eight innings of work with no walks. The nine victories are the most by a Falcon pitcher since Jason Kelley recorded a school-record 12 in 1999. Badenhop allowed just two hits over his final five innings pitched.
While Badenhop was keeping the Rockets at bay a couple of senior hitters were supplying the offense. After junior Nolan Reimold hit his fourth home run in three days and 18th of the season, a solo blast in the bottom of the second inning, seniors Kevin Longstreth, Andy Hudak and Jeff Warnock drove in the next six runs for the Falcons.
Longstreth had an RBI-double in the second inning to couple with Reimold's homer and knot the game at 2-2. Hudak then ripped the go-ahead, two-run home run in the sixth inning to give the Falcons the lead for good, 4-2. The homer was his 10th of the season, tying a career-high, and second of the series.
BGSU (31-14, 11-7 MAC) broke a close game open in the bottom of the eighth inning with five runs. Warnock had an RBI-single and Longstreth had a two-run, bases-loaded single up the middle for three of the runs. The other two runs came on a two-run single by sophomore Kurt Wells.
UT (14-35, 4-15 MAC) had staked a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a two-run single by Jason Watson before BGSU rattled off nine unanswered runs.
Senior Matt Hundley entered in relief of Badenhop in the ninth inning for his career-best 24th appearance this season. He retired the side in order in his 80th career appearance, second-most all-time at BGSU.
Longstreth (2-for-3, 3 RBIs), Tyler Wasserman (2-for-2), Reimold (2-for-3), and Stewart (2-for-4) all had multiple hits for the Falcons. BGSU outhit UT, 12-7.
BGSU finished 18-3 at Warren Steller Field this season, the most home wins since 2002 (18-5).
The Falcons and Rockets actually see each other again this Wednesday, May 18, at Scott Park beginning at 3 p.m. in a non-conference tilt. BGSU is still battling for a spot in the Mid-American Conference Tournament and sits in fourth-place in the MAC West Division. The Falcons travel to Western Michigan next weekend, May 20-22, for the regular season finale.
