BGSU Men's Soccer Announces 2005 Schedule

The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team has announced its 2005 schedule. Included in it are seven home games and five matchups against 2004 NCAA tournament participants.
The Falcons will begin with a tough exhibition season which will include home games against Oakland University (Aug. 20) and 2004 NCAA participant Michigan (Aug. 26). BGSU will then take to the road to play its first six regular-season games, including the season opener in Green Bay, Wis., vs. Sacred Heart on Saturday, Sept. 3. BGSU plays Eastern Illinois on Sunday, Sept. 4, in Wisconsin.
BGSU then travels to Wright State (Sept. 9), Evansville (Sept. 11), Xavier (Sept. 14), and the Univ. of Maryland-Baltimore County (Sept. 18). The Sept. 11 matchup will be a homecoming of sorts for Falcon coach Fred Thompson who was an assistant for the Purple Aces for two years prior to coming to Bowling Green.
BGSU then holds its home-opener on Friday, Sept. 23, against 2004 NCAA participant Ohio State at Mickey Cochrane Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. against the Buckeyes. Two days later the Falcons will host St. Mary's (Calif.) on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 12 noon.
The Falcons travel to 2004 tourney team Michigan State on Sept. 29 and then to Loyola-Chicago on Oct. 2.
There will be only four Mid-American Conference opponents on the schedule this season for BGSU due to Marshall University leaving the league.
The MAC opener comes Friday, Oct. 7, at home against visiting Northern Illinois (1 p.m.). Western Michigan then comes to town on Sunday, Oct. 9 (3 p.m.). Trips to Buffalo (Oct. 14) and defending MAC Champion Akron (Oct. 16) will round out the league slate for BGSU.
Three home games will take place in the final two weeks of the season, including visits by Cincinnati (Oct. 19), Cleveland State (Oct. 26), and IPFW (Oct. 30). A trip to 2004 NCAA participant Western Illinois is on the docket for Oct. 23. BGSU assistant Tony Economopolous was an assistant for the Leathernecks prior to joining the Brown and Orange.
The league tournament will begin with a MAC Play-In game on Tuesday, Nov. 8, between the #4 and #5 seeds with the MAC semifinals scheduled for Nov. 11 and the MAC Championship scheduled for Nov. 13. Both the semifinals and championship will be played at the #1 seed.
This year's NCAA College Cup will be played in Cary, N.C., Dec. 9 and 11.
