KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University baseball team got its second straight spectacular pitching performance in as many days, but fell to Western Michigan Saturday afternoon 3-1. Keith Laughlin threw a complete game, allowing three runs on nine hits, while striking out 10.
Despite the loss, BGSU (33-16, 12-8) will advance to the Mid-American Conference Tournament for the first time since 2002, after Kent State fell to Ball State 4-0 Saturday afternoon, clinching a tourney berth for the Falcons
The Broncos (26-22, 13-8) got on the board early with a pair of runs in the second after a leadoff single, followed by back-to-back doubles to give Western Michigan and early 2-0 advantage.
BGSU climbed to within one run in the fourth as junior Nolan Reimold led off the inning with a solo blast, but the Falcon offense could gather only three more hits from there on out.
The rubber match with WMU tomorrow afternoon will not only conclude the regular season, but will also have MAC Tournament implications as well. The winner of tomorrow's showdown will be seeded fourth in the conference tournament, with the loser falling to the No. 5 seed. Tomorrow's action will begin at 1:00 p.m.
