BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team has a nationally-ranked recruiting class, according to the online magazine Soccer Buzz. The Falcons' 2005 recruiting class was rated 14th in the Great Lakes Region and 94th in the country.
BGSU is the highest-rated Mid-American Conference school listed in the Great Lakes Region, and the lone MAC institution to be listed in the national top 100. Within the state, only Ohio State (third in the region, 34th nationally) and Dayton (fourth, 38th) were ranked higher than the Falcons.
A total of six MAC schools were ranked, as Ohio was 19th and Miami 20th in the Great Lakes region, while Western Michigan (24th) and Akron (25th) rounded out the top 25. Buffalo was ranked 14th in the Northeast Region.
Head coach Andy Richards has nine newcomers for the 2005 season. Last month, Richards and his staff announced the signing of seven student athletes, including Amanda Campbell (Cincinnati, Ohio), Brianne Eisenhard (West Chester, Ohio), Susan Hunter (Sidney, Ohio), Kristin McDonald (Troy, Ohio), Meredith Repke (Naperville, Ill.), Corbie Yee (Berea, Ohio) and Christy Zabek (Hendersonville, Tenn.). Additionally, transfers Karie Sahly (Naperville, Ill./Valparaiso Univ.) and Katie Krapf (Stockton, Calif./Long Beach CC) will join the Falcon program for the 2005 season.
BGSU finished the 2004 season with an overall record of 10-12-2, including a 5-5-2 mark in MAC play. The Falcons, seeded eighth for the league tournament, won the title and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first time in school history.
