Falcons to Test Confidence on the Road

Fred Thompson's Falcons will spend homecoming weekend away from the friendly confines of Mickey Cochrane Stadium and as they travel to Michigan State Thursday afternoon and Loyola University Chicago Sunday afternoon...the MSU match will kick-off at 4:00 p.m...the LUC match-up will begin at 1:00 p.m...these will be the last two non-conference games for the Falcons before they are tested in MAC play...the Falcons are 1-0 against Big Ten opponents this season.
Birds of a Feather Play Together
Ryan Perea scored his first collegiate goal against the Buckeye's and chipped in one assist against the Gaels...Omari Aldridge netted one goal and one assist against OSU and two goals versus SMC...Kyle Williams' unassisted GWG over OSU was his first collegiate score...Gregory Hennelly's goal against SMC was his first of the 2005 season...keeper Paul Shoemaker currently leads the conference in Saves per game (5.57) and total saves with 39 in seven games.
Aldridge Earns MAC POW Honors
Scored one goal and had one assist in a double overtime win over No. 11 Ohio State...scored twice in the Falcons 3-1 win over Saint Mary's College...has four goals in past three consecutive games...leads BGSU in scoring with four goals and two assists on 13 shots on goal.
In the Past Week
BGSU: Broke a 25-match winless streak dating back to the 2003 season... had an extraordinary double overtime win over No.11 OSU, 3-2... captured their second consecutive victory at Mickey Cochrane Stadium in a 3-1 decision over visiting St. Mary's College of California.
MSU: Tied Dartmouth, 2-2, in final game of the Yale University Invitational...tied No.1 ranked Indiana, 0-0 in its Big Ten opener on Sunday.
LCU: Fell to the University of South Carolina in a 2-1 OT decision...handed the University of Illinois-Chicago their first loss of the season, 2-1, at UIC's Flames Field Sunday afternoon.
Scouting the Spartans The Michigan State Spartans of the Big Ten Conference will enter the match with a 2-1-4 overall record and have yet to lose at home (1-0-1)...the Spartans are led by head coach Joe Baum...MSU is led offensively by Ryan McMahen (3g,3a) and Doug MeMartin (2g)...keeper Jason Tillman has yet to miss a minute of action in the net...Tillman has 24 saves with seven goals against...MSU has an even offensive attack scoring four goals in each half to date...each of the MSU goals have been assisted goals...the Spartans have tied their last three games...MSU has not won a match since their 2-1 victory over Long Island in early September.
The Series
Bowling Green leads the series 16-11-5 over the Spartans...in the most recent meeting between the two, MSU shutout the Falcons, 3-0, at Mickey Cochrane Stadium in 2004...the first meeting was finished in overtime where the Spartans won, 4-2...BGSU has pushed the Spartans into overtime 10 times and have posted a record of 2-3-5...the Orange and Brown's last win came in 2001 when they traveled to East Lansing.
Scouting the Ramblers
The Loyola University Chicago of the Horizon League holds a 2-3-1 overall record and is 1-3-1 in non-conference play...the Ramblers are coached by Brendan Eitz, who is in his first season leading the Ramblers...in 10 season Eitz's holds a 66-119-12 career record...15 letterwinners will return from a 2004 squad that finished with a 3-14-1 overall record...nine starters return from last year's squad...key returnees include senior Eric Spiess who earned a spot on the 2004 First Team All-Horizon League...senior Joe Nierzwicki led the Ramblers in scoring and was named Second Team All-Horizon League...LUC has yet to win a game in overtime losing to both the College of Charleston and South Carolina in 2OT...the Ramblers have scored two goals in five of their six games to date...BGSU will be the second MAC opponent LUC will play this weekend...the Ramblers will travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., Friday night to take on the Broncos of Western Michigan.
