BGSU Volleyball Drops Final Two Games at UIC Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The BGSU Falcon volleyball team finished the UIC Invitational with a 1-3 record. The Falcons dropped a three-game match to College of Charleston and a five-game match to James Madison.
The Falcons were unable to fight back after falling behind early in all three games in the 3-0 (12-30, 15-30, 17-30) loss to College of Charleston on day two of the UIC Invitational.
Coming out of the locker room down 2-0 the Falcons suffered a 4-1 disadvantage to start game three. However, the Brown and Orange fought back to tie the game at 8-8. Unfortunately, the Cougars hit another hot streak and finished off the match with a game three victory.
The Falcons underclassmen led the offense as Mohr paced the team in kills with six, followed by sophomore Stephanie Swiger (5) and redshirt freshman Kendra Halm (4).
Senior Emily Manser recorded 14 digs defensively for the Falcons, while freshman Chelsey Meek also recorded double digit digs with 11.
In the second match of the day BGSU dropped a heartbreaker to James Madison in five games. In game one alone, Bowling Green started off by hitting .370, pounding the Dukes 30-18. The Falcons compiled 13 kills while committing only three errors.
The Falcons and James Madison swapped roles in game two as the Dukes hit .333 and took the game 30-15. In game three the Falcons took a 14-3 lead and never looked back, cruising to a 30-22 victory.
Freshman Meghan Mohr led the Falcons to a 4-1 lead in game four by blasting three kills. With the scored knotted at 6-6, James Madison went on a 8-1 run forcing a game five by taking game four 30-20.
In their second five-game match of the weekend, kills by junior Chrissy Gothke and sophomore Maggie Karges aided the Falcons in rallying from a seven point deficit. However, the Dukes regrouped and stole the match (15-12).
Mohr led the Falcons with 13 kills in the second match, followed by Manser (10). Freshman Chelsey Meek recorded 15 digs to lead BGSU against James Madison
Mohr was impressive in her first weekend sporting the Brown and Orange. She piled up 41 kills while hitting .300 during the UIC Invitational.
Up next the Falcons host Dayton on September 6th at Anderson Arena. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
