BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Jamie Dumont has been named assistant hockey coach at Bowling Green State University, BGSU head coach Scott Paluch has announced. Dumont replaces Kevin Patrick, who joined the Wisconsin staff on Aug. 18.
"I am very excited to join the Bowling Green family," said Dumont. "With the strong tradition of hockey at BGSU and working with Scott [Paluch] and Ron [Fogarty] it will be a wonderful experience. They are two of the most respected coaches in college hockey."
Dumont comes to BGSU after serving as a graduate assistant with the University of Maine hockey program over the past summer.
"We are really excited to have Jamie join the Bowling Green program," said head coach Scott Paluch. "He brings a great amount of enthusiasm and work ethic to our team. Jamie has worked for some outstanding coaches and is an outstanding on ice teacher and tireless recruiter."
Prior to joining Maine, Dumont served as an assistant coach at Bowdoin College for four seasons. Last season Bowdoin posted a 17-6-3 record and earned a spot in the NESCAC Championships. In 2001-02, the team was ranked in the top ten nationally and reached the NCAA Division III Tournament. During the 2002-03 season, the Polar Bears were ranked as high as third in the nation. While at Bowdoin, he worked with the Polar Bears defense and was responsible for video coordination and recruiting. He also served as the rink manager of Dayton Arena and worked in game management for fall and spring sports. In addition to his work with Bowdoin, Dumont has coached Maine State Select Teams with USA Hockey.
A graduate of Oswego State University, Dumont was a four-year letterman as the Lakers reached the SUNYAC playoffs each season. He began his coaching career as an undergraduate volunteer assistant at Oswego and helped guide the Lakers to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 1998. He then became an assistant at Hobart College for two seasons, reaching the ECAC West playoffs both seasons.
After leaving Hobart, Dumont was the hockey and coaching director for the Wyoming Amatuer Hockey Association. He served as head coach of the Wyoming Selects Midget AAA team. He also has experience as head coach of the Lakeland All-Star team in Calgary.
