Bulls Hold On To Beat Falcons, 76-73

Bowling Green, Ohio - The following are post game notes from Tuesday's 76-73 loss at home to Buffalo.
It is the first win ever for Buffalo at Anderson Arena. The Falcons still lead the overall series, 10-2.
Junior Martin Samarco, senior Mawel Soler and junior John Floyd combined to score 59 out of 73 points (.808) for the Falcons
Bowling Green outscored Buffalo 49-38 in the second half and 22-12 in the paint.
Soler racked up career-high's in points (19), field goals (8) and field goals attempted (9). He has averaged 18 points in his last two home games. Had he not missed his field goal attempt, he would have tied the BGSU record for most field goals in a game without a miss (Brent Klassen, 8 vs. Marshall, 2002).
Samarco once again led the Falcons with 30 points. It is the second time in three games that Samarco has topped 30 while he has led the team in scoring 11 times while scoring in double-figures in 16 out of 17.
Samarco eclipsed a career-high field-goals made (11). It is also a Falcon season-high.
Junior Patrick Phillips helped spark the Falcons' second half rally with his hustle and scored four points and had two rebounds. His four points scored was a MAC career-high for the Sandusky, Ohio product.
Freshman Erik Marschall had a career-high three steals.
BGSU shot a season-low seven free throw attempts, but their six made gave them a season-high percentage of 85.7% from the line.
The game was tied six times and there were seven lead changes.
The Game Bowling Green held a 13-11 edge after 10 minutes of play before Buffalo went on an 8-0 run, capped by a three-point shot from Calvin Cage to give the Bulls a 18-13 with 8:00 remaining in the half.
After a Matt Lefeld basket tied the game at 20-20 with 6:40 in the half, Buffalo used an 18-4 to open up a 38-24 halftime advantage. For the half, the Bulls shot 15-23 (.652) from the field and also connected on 5-7 (.714) from beyond the arc.
After trading baskets for nearly five minutes to open the second half, Patrick Phillips ignited a 13-0 Bowling Green to close the gap to just two, 53-51, with 13:11 when John Floyd nailed a triple. That ended a series of six quick points scored by the Toledo native who also had stolen a pass and made a layup and free throw on the previous play.
Buffalo quickly answered with an 8-0 run of their own to push the lead back to double-figures with just over 10 minutes remaining.
With 1:25 to play, the Falcons trailed, 70-63, when Buffalo forward Mario Jordan committed an intentional foul and then gave the Falcons two more free-throws when he was called for a technical foul. Martin Samarco and Mawel Soler each hit two free throws to close the gap to three, 70-67.
The Bulls' Parnell Smith stripped the ball from Soler inside the paint.
After Buffalo made six of eight free throw attempts, Samarco nailed a three-pointer to make it 74-73 with 10.1 seconds to go.
Cage hit both free throws to make it 76-73 for Buffalo and Samarco's long (25-foot) three-point attempt hit the back of the rim as time expired.
