EAST LANSING, Mich. - Two members of the Bowling Green State University tennis team competed at the ITA Midwest Region Championships on Thursday (Oct. 19). Senior Ashley Jakupcin and freshman Samantha Kintzel opened play at the Falcons' final fall action of the season, which is being hosted by Michigan State University.
In the round of 64 of the singles qualifier, Jakupcin lost her match to Michigan's Tanyhi Dudhela, 6-3, 6-2. Kintzel fell to Minnesota's Karina Chiarelli by scores of 6-1 and 6-3.
Jakupcin rebounded to pick up a win over Cleveland State's Sarah Galon in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) in the consolation round. Kintzel lost her consolation-round match to Shivani Dave of Illinois, 6-0, 6-3.
The ITA Midwest Regional continues Friday, with singles play entering the round of 16, and doubles action commencing. For the Brown and Orange, two doubles teams will compete: the duos of Kintzel and sophomore Stefanie Menoff, along with junior Jenna Nussbaum and sophomore Kelsey Jakupcin.
