BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green (3-11-1, 0-3-0) concluded their home season play with a loss to the visiting Mid-American Conference powerhouse University of Akron (9-4-1, 3-1-0).
"We played a team that is pretty sharp right now, who is coming off a very good game with Michigan and we were a bit dull in our play today," said head coach Fred Thompson. "We just finished a 10 day hiatus where we had only played each other in practice and we were unable to shake the rust off in time."
Regionally ranked No. 10 Akron led by four goals at the half and did not let the Falcons back in the match offensively.
Mark Scholz earned the substitution in the second half. In previous matches, Scholz has made an impact in the second half when called on to the field from the bench. In his first collegiate match, Scholz made eight saves against Michigan State University; today he recorded a second half shut-out.
"Halftime felt like a situation where we needed to make a change in the game and Mark is a good keeper. Despite a very nice spell during team situations, he has been a bit injury prone. Now that he is healthy again I can see him battling for the starting position in practice."
George Davis IV scored his second goal of the year just before the clock hit 80:00. Cameron Hepple and Ryan Perea assisted on the Falcon goal. The assist was Hepple's first and was the third for Perea. The assist propelled Perea atop the category this season.
The Falcons conclude their home season at 1-6-0.
Bowling Green will play their remaining matches on the road at IPFW and Western Michigan on Sunday and Friday, respectively. Sunday's match in Indiana will begin at 1:00 p.m. while the match in Kalamazoo, Michigan has a scheduled start of 3:00 p.m.
