The Falcons received 245 points and 40 of the 41 first-place votes in the poll, released by the MACNMA, to finish 52 points ahead of Kent State. Eastern Michigan, the preseason choice in the West Division, received 214 votes and garnered 21 first-place votes.
A total of 35 voters chose the Falcons to win the MAC Tournament, with KSU (two), Western Michigan (two) and Toledo (one) also receiving votes.
The Falcons set school and MAC records for wins in a season, going 28-3 overall, in 2005-06. Head coach Curt Miller and company posted a perfect 16-0 league record, and won three MAC Tournament games to capture that title for the second consecutive March. The Brown and Orange won the MAC's West Division in 2004-05 before being moved back to the East prior to the '05-06 academic year.
Miller, seniors Liz Honegger and Ali Mann and junior Kate Achter represented the team in Cleveland on Wednesday, meeting with various members of the media to discuss the upcoming season. Honegger, Mann and Achter were selected to the Preseason All-MAC Team by the MACNMA. Miller has nine letterwinners, including all five starters, back from last year's team.
Mann was chosen to the preseason all-league team for the third consecutive year, while Honegger appeared in Cleveland for the second consecutive October.
Fans get their first chance to see the Falcons in action on Wednesday, Nov. 1, when BGSU takes on Findlay in an exhibition game at Anderson Arena. The regular season opens Nov. 10 with a game at Detroit, with the home portion of the regular-season slate commencing two weeks later (Fri., Nov. 24) against Temple.
The MAC News Media Association Preseason Poll follows, with first-place votes and points received.
