BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at #19 Ohio Saturday night in their regular season finale. BGSU earned the number three seed for the Mid-American Conference tournament after posting a 13-3 conference record.
Bowling Green struggled offensively, hitting just .185 for the match. Junior Stephanie Swiger played well on the offensive side of the net, however, compiling 11 kills while hitting .320.
The Falcons fell victim to a 5-1 deficit to begin game one and could not recover, dropping the first game 30-19. Senior Chrissy Gothke contributed four kills, six assists, a dig and a solo block in the opening act.
BGSU bounced back in game two, owning a lead as late as 19-18. Junior Corrie Mills led the way with five game-two kills. Unfortunately, several Falcon errors then gave Ohio a lead that they would not relinquish in their 30-26 victory. Despite the loss, Sophomore Chelsey Meek dazzled the crowd with 10 digs in game two alone.
Game three was deja vu all over again for the Falcons as they struggled offensively and dropped a 30-18 final score. Bowling Green fell behind early in the third game and could not recover. The MAC's top blocking team recorded just three team blocks in the defeat.
The Brown and Orange will return to action next Friday (Nov. 17) in the second round of the MAC tournament. The SeaGate Centre, in Toledo, Ohio, is the site for the 2006 MAC tournament. Check back at bgsufalcons.com to see the complete MAC tournament bracket Sunday afteroon.
