2006 All-MAC Women's Soccer Teams

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced its 2006 women's soccer All-MAC teams, as well as its Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year on Thursday, as voted by the league's head coaches.
Miami forward Kathleen Vistica took home MAC Player of the Year honors. Vistica led Miami in goals (9), assists (6) and points (24) and set career highs in both goals and points during the 2006 season. Scoring two goals in game twice this season, including a season-best five-point effort against Buffalo (Sept. 22), Vistica helped Miami qualify for its third consecutive MAC Tournament. Vistica additionally had a goal and an assist in games four times this season, added two game-winning goals against Northern Colorado and Buffalo and ended the regular season on a four-game point streak. Especially effective against conference opponents, Vistica notched 17 of her 24 points in MAC games and finished first in points (17), tied for first in assists (5) and tied for second in goals (6) during conference play. For her career, Vistica stands third on the Miami all-time assist chart (20) and fourth on both the career points (70) and career goals (25) list, and she is one of only three players in program history to compile 20 goals and 20 assists in her career. She was also named to the 2006 All-MAC first-team.
Central Michigan's Stephanie Martin was selected as Freshman of the Year after scoring 21 points on nine goals and three assists for the Chippewas. The All-MAC second-team and All-Freshman team selection led the MAC in shots (63) goals (9), goals per game (0.50) and game-winning goals (6). She finished second in the league in shots per game (3.50), points (21) and points per game (1.17).
First year BSU head coach Michelle Salmon was voted Coach of the Year by her colleagues and is the first coach in Cardinal history to be selected for the honor. Salmon led the Cardinals to an overall record of 13-4-3 (8-2-1 MAC) and coached her team to the first regular season title in Ball State history. BSU also led the All-MAC first team with four selections. Seniors Amy Holst, Vandi Ogden and Sarah Maxwell were all named to the first team along with sophomore Emily Rein.
Leading the All-MAC team is Central Michigan, which tabbed three first-team and two second-team members. Senior midfielders Jacquie Lacek and Rosamaria Rago and senior goalkeeper Anne Decker were named to the first-team, while Martin and junior defender Erin Douglas were named to the second team. The Chippewas finished the regular season with an impressive 13-4-2 record (6-3-2 MAC) under head coach Tony DiTucci.
Toledo had one first-team selection in senior defender Kirsty Wilson. The Rockets placed three on the All-MAC second-team with forward Molly Cornwell, defender Suzi Siwinski and goalkeeper Jen Whipple. Cornwell was also selected to the All-MAC Freshman team.
Kent State's Kimberly Dimitroff and Ohio's Rachael Goulding rounded out this year's All-MAC first team honorees. Dimitroff was named to the 2004 All-MAC first-team and 2005 All-MAC second-team, while Goulding was also named to this year's All-MAC Freshman team.
In addition to Vistica being placed on the All-MAC first team, the RedHawks also had two All-MAC second-team selections. Miami midfielder Aimee Prevallet and defender Kate Padfield earned the second-team honors this season.
Buffalo's Brooke McCalla was named to the All-MAC second-team after being named to the MAC All-Freshman team last season. Kent State midfielder Lisa Kurz, Ohio midfielder Tiffany Horvath and Bowling Green forward Corbie Yee rounded out this season's All-MAC second-team.
Joining Martin, Goulding and Cornwell on the All-Freshman Team is Bowling Green's Colleen Kordan, Eastern Michigan's Deana Kitner and Maggie Christensen, Miami's Jodi Zwingelberg and Krista Pace, NIU's Lisa Maier, Ohio's Amy Lower and Western Michigan's Patrice Impelido.
The league championship semifinals will take place at Scott Park on the University of Toledo campus at 11:30 a.m. on Friday when No. 6 Kent State takes on No. 7 Northern Illinois. No. 5 Toledo will face No. 8 Miami at 2:30 p.m. The winners will play for the MAC Championship at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 5. The semifinals and Championship game will be televised live on BCSN.
