AKRON, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Some notes and numbers from the Bowling Green State University football team's 35-28 loss to the University of Akron at the Rubber Bowl Saturday afternoon (Nov. 4)...
* Falcon quarterback Anthony Turner rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns, while completing 20-of-36 passes for 192 yards and a score.
* For Turner, the 20 completions marked a season-high total, and tied for the second-most connections in his career. Turner completed a career-best 22 passes in last year's UA game, and also had 20 completions vs. Western Michigan in 2005.
* Sophomore Corey Partridge caught 10 of Turner's passes Saturday, for a game-high total of 107 yards. Partridge's game was the second 100-yard receiving contest of his career. He had 160 yards receiving in the 2005 game at Wisconsin.
* Partridge's total of 10 receptions set a new career standard, topping his total of eight catches in that 2005 game at UW. His 10-reception, 107-yard game came after he spent Wednesday night in the hospital due to a stomach ailment.
* Fifth-year senior DL Brad Williams and redshirt junior TE Sean O'Drobinak each returned to the Falcon lineup after missing several games apiece due to injuries. O'Drobinak had sat out of the last two contests, at Central Michigan and Temple, while Williams had missed three consecutive games, having not played since the Ohio State game.
* However, fifth-year senior LB Terrel White and redshirt junior Drew Nystrom each missed the UA game with injuries.
* Sophomore DB Kenny Lewis joined the Falcons' four season captains as a captain for Saturday's game vs. the Zips.
* The Zips led by a 7-0 score after the first quarter, having gained 146 total yards to the Falcons' 51.
* On the first play of the second quarter, though, Turner found Partridge down the middle for a 28-yard gain on third-and-25.
* Turner capped that drive with a 1-yard touchdown plunge. The Falcons' drive covered 80 yards in 19 plays, and took exactly eight minutes. It marked BGSU's longest drive of the year in terms of both total plays and time elapsed.
* On BGSU's first drive of the second quarter, Partridge caught a 20-yard pass in traffic, setting up the Falcons at the Akron 30. After a pass interference call on the next play, Chris Bullock rumbled around right end for 14 yards to the one, and Turner went over left tackle for a touchdown on the next play.
* For Turner, the touchdown was his third rushing score of the season and the sixth of his career. It also marked his first career two-TD game. Of course, he would up those totals to four rushing TDs in 2006 and seven in his career later in the game.
* BGSU's first two TD drives covered 80 and 70 yards, respectively.
* With 12 seconds left in the first half, Kenny Lewis picked off a Luke Getsy pass in the end zone. For Lewis, the pick was his team-leading fourth of the season and the fifth of his career.
* On the Zips' opening drive of the third quarter, Devon Parks got to Getsy for a sack on third down. The sack was Parks' eighth of the season, most on the team, and the 21st of his career, leading all active Falcons.
* BGSU's first drive of the second half was exclusively on the ground, until the final play. After eight rushing plays, Turner found Pete Winovich for an eight-yard scoring pass. The play was Winovich's first career score. The point-after try by Sean Ellis gave the Falcons a 21-14 lead with 8:24 remaining in the third quarter. BG ran eight times for 48 yards on the drive, prior to the seven-yard scoring pass.
* On the ensuing kickoff, Matt Emans forced a fumble by UA's Brandon Anderson, that was recovered by the Zips. The play was reviewed and upheld.
* Freddie Barnes made his first appearance of the game on the Falcons' next drive, a drive that began with 5:35 left in the third quarter. On the second play, Barnes caught a pass from Turner for 19 yards.
* On a fourth-and-5 play with just over four minutes left in the fourth quarter, Turner found Partridge for a 25-yard gain to the Akron 39-yard line.
* Partridge caught another pass two plays later, as mentioned going over the 100-yard mark for the second time in his Falcon career.
* After Akron took a two-touchdown lead, 35-21, the Falcons responded with a 14-play, 80-yard drive. The 14th play saw Turner run for his third touchdown of the afternoon, an eight-yard run on a fourth-and-8 play with 2:14 left.
* On the ensuing onside kick, taken by punter Alonso Rojas, an Akron player touched the ball before it went 10 yards, but did not catch it. Ruben Ruiz pounced on the ball at the BGSU 43-yard line with 2:09 left.
* Two plays later, on third-and-10, Turner scrambled for a 13-yard gain to the Zips' 44. That rush put Turner over the 100-yard mark for the day.
* Then, on a fourth-and-4 play, Ruiz came up big again, with a 17-yard catch-and-run to the UA 21. On another fourth-down play, this time with 16 seconds left, Ruiz caught a Turner pass in the end zone, but the Falcons were called for offensive pass interference to negate the play.
* Defensively, Antonio Smith had nine tackles to lead the Falcons, while Jahmal Brown had eight.
