BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - After competing in four road meets, the Bowling Green State University Swimming and Diving Falcons (0-3-0, 0-3-0) will open the Mid-American Conference season at home on Saturday afternoon. BGSU will welcome the Cardinals of Ball State (2-1-0, 2-1-0) to the friendly waters of Cooper Pool at 1:00 p.m.
SCOUTING THE CARDS (11/11)
Coaches Laura Seibold-Caudill and Bob Thomas join for their 28th season at the helm of the Ball State Cardinals...they have amassed a record of 232-133-1 as co-head coaches...BSU finished the 2005-06 season at 8-4-0 overall and 3-4-1 in the conference...11 letterwinners return to the squad while six were lost to graduation.
BSU AND THE MAC
The Cards are 2-1-0 in the conference with wins coming over Buffalo and Akron at home...conference tournament runner-up and perpetual MAC powerhouse gave BSU their first loss on Friday...Brittany Sayler of Ball State brought home victories in the 100 and 200 back while teammate Stephanie Paul won the 3-meter diving event against Miami...BSU also took top honors in the 200 free relay with another Cardinal quartet placing second in the same meet... the Falcons registered 18 top three finishes last season against the Cards in Muncie, Ind...Keating led all Falcons with two wins in the 200 and 500 free events...she also placed third in the 100 free...the squads were evenly matched with nearly half (7 of 16) of the events being decided by less than one second.
FALCONS NOTES
Freshman Chelsea Lopus, along with seasoned veterans Caroline Keating and Alisha Yee, continue to build their successful résumés after picking up additional top times at Ohio University last weekend...Brit O'Conner also scored with two top three times in the 100 and 200 back...junior Kimberly Albin added an additional two scores in the 200 fly and the 200 breast...Frankie Houck and Jennifer Wright scored for the Falcons with their third place finishes in the 50 and 100 free races, respectively...diver Ashley Belrose recorded a runner-up finish off the 1-meter board while teammate Sarah Parker picked up the third.
