Miami (1-9, 1-5) at Bowling Green (4-6, 3-3) Wednesday, November 15 • 7:30 p.m. Doyt L. Perry Stadium (23,724) RADIO: BGSU Radio Network (Todd Walker, Cal Bowers and Jason Aldrich) TV: ESPN2 (Rece Davis, Mark May, Lou Holtz) SERIES RECORD: BGSU leads 38-19-5 LAST MEETING: BGSU 42, at Miami 14 (11/15/05)
BGSU and Miami will meet for the 63rd time in a series which began in 1941. The RedHawks lead the series, 38-19-5. In their last meeting in Oxford a year ago, BGSU took home a 42-14 triumph. In the most recent meeting in Bowling Green, Miami won the MAC Championship, 49-27 in 2003. The RedHawks have won the last three meetings in BG with the Falcons last winning at home in this series in 1997, 28-21.
This will be just the fourth true home game of the season for BGSU. Overall this season, BG will play eight games away from home (7 road, 1 neutral). BGSU was designated as the home team at Cleveland Browns Stadium against Wisconsin in the season opener.
The Falcons lead the MAC in rushing offense (191.5), first downs (194 in 10 games) and third down conversions (42.6). BGSU is third in the league in total offense (356.7), sacks (23), sacks allowed (18) and fewest penalty yards (53.8).
The Falcons boast three of the top pass rushers in the MAC in senior defensive end Devon Parks, sophomore defensive end Diyral Briggs and senior linebacker Terrel White. The trio has combined for 17.5 sacks this season. Parks is third in the league with seven, Briggs is sixth with 5.5, and White is 11th with four after having a career-high three against Temple.
MAC Freshman of the Year candidate Chris Bullock has rushed for an average of 100.7 yards per game in the last seven games. The redshirt freshman is averaging 5.3 yards per carry during that time frame, and has gained more yards than any other rookie ball carrier in the league with 728. His 80.9 rushing yards per game ranks third in the nation among all freshmen running backs.
Last year, the Falcons posted their fifth straight winning season with a 6-5 record. BGSU was nationally ranked in one or both major polls in 2002, 2003 and 2004. They finished 24th in the final BCS poll in 2003. The Falcons are looking to post their sixth consecutive non-losing season, a feat not accomplished at BGSU since Don Nehlen's teams posted six straight winning seasons from 1971-76.
The Falcons boast one of the youngest teams in the country having played 27 true or redshirt freshmen. Twenty-one players have made their first career start this season.
BGSU's .671 winning percentage since 2001 (47-23) is the best among all MAC schools during the last five-plus seasons.
This will mark the final home game for 10 seniors: WR Kenneth Brantley, LB Jon Jakubowski, OL, John Lanning, OL Derrick Markray, LB Will Myles, DE Devon Parks, WR Ruben Ruiz, DL Tommy Smith, DL Brad Williams and LB Terrel White.
