Bowling Green Quotes
BGSU Coach Dan Dakich
Opening Statement
"I thought for 38, 37 minutes we were fairly good, we played against a really good team and we played hard and then we fell apart and I think there were so many shots that were half way down and then out. But, I give Troy credit, they came in here and battled and competed. I told my coaches, I swear to you this is one of those games where you will not feel comfortable up 20, up 10, just watching them play. I mean Martin made a heck of a shot and truthfully Martin deserved a shot to go in because he has struggled and missed some free throws at the end of the game and I am just so happy for him because he tried so hard."
On the last 15 seconds of the game
"The ups were not as high as the downs. We didn't quit in the last 15 seconds and we gave a good shooter, Jackson, his shot in his spot. That is where he shoots the basketball. Then when our shot went in we were obviously ecstatic but at the same time, a little bit upset with how you played in the last three minutes. I don't know what I would have done had we lost this one."
On the last play of the game
"Hamblet made a great play, you see all the time guys in situations bring the ball down the floor and throw it up from half court with three seconds left to go and people are thinking what are you doing, but Hamblet when he got the basketball I looked to call a time-out, but his head was up and he was looking for Martin. He made the play, Martin made the shot. If Hamblet didn't have a really high intelligence for basketball Martin doesn't get the ball and the game is over. If you watch enough college basketball a lot of guys shoots the ball or panic in that situation."
Brian Guerin
On his role
"I tried to get my shot up in the air or try to get the ball into the middle."
"Whenever we passed the ball four or five times on a possession we seemed to score."
On playing the whole second half
"I am tired but I feel good. I just played defense the whole second half."
On his ability to move the ball around on a zone defense
"With Martin on the three point line they have to stretch out to guard so him so you have to get the ball to the middle which I tried to do."
On the winning shot
"It feels really good because I missed some free throws late. I know I shot it off my right foot and I knew it didn't matter what foot I would land on, it all depended on my follow through."
On being prepared for these situations
"We always go late game situations with two or three minutes left on the clock, but it was just four seconds and Coach Dakich always wants Hamblet to bring the ball up fast and I just happened to look and he threw me the ball and it went from there."
On making a winning shot
"That was my first time and it felt really good."
Troy coach Don Maestri
Opening Statement
"I thought it was a great college basketball game with the intensity level and for both teams defensively. For us it was as good as it's been in the last three years and for them it was excellent also. It was a great defensive battle and there were some big shots made. They had some big three's that they made against a lot of pressure, but we made some big plays all during the game. We never ever quit believing that we would make a run even at the end. It was a great game. We tied it up, but it could have been an overtime game if we would have played a little bit smarter and got back rather than keep pressing but at that time everything was so emotional so everyone kept playing like we needed to catch up."
On the winning shot
"Sometimes those go in and tonight was one of them. It was a shot I didn't think he was going to make and it would have been interesting to see, I don't know if we would have won or lost in overtime, but we would have loved to play in overtime."
