BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Orange and Brown (4-4) will continue their grueling non-conference schedule as they travel to the campus of Xavier University (4-1) Saturday afternoon before returning to Shadow Valley Tennis and Fitness Center. The Sunday match in Toledo will pair the Falcons with Chicago-Illinois (1-4).
"Both matches are going to be hard fought," predicts head coach Penny Dean. "We match-up closely with both teams. They are strong throughout their line-ups in both the singles and doubles."
Saturday's opponent, Xavier University, will enter the match with just a single loss to Notre Dame, 7-0. The Atlantic-10 member's closest scoring matches were 5-2 victories over Eastern Kentucky and YSU.
"Even though their top players were lost to graduation, I still feel as if they are a very solid team,' said Dean of the Musketeers.
Sunday's match will be interesting for the visiting University of Chicago-Illinois. The Flames will visit Detroit for an early morning match then travel to Toledo to play face the Falcons.
Last season the Falcons beat both opponents and Dean foresees this to place a target on the backs of her players.
"Our wins could be seen as upsets; more than likely both teams will be out to get us," said Dean.
Saturday's match in Cincinnati will begin at 1:00 p.m. while the first serve of the UIC match will be thrown at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Freshmen Kelsey Jakupcin (6-2) and Stefanie Menoff (4-1) will enter the matches with winning singles records.
The combinations of Ashley Jakupcin and Jenna Nussbaum (3-5), K. Jakupcin and Heidi Romer (5-1) and Andrea Meister and Andrea Volle (3-4) will face the weekend's doubles flights on high notes.
