BOWLING GREEN,
Fans that attended the BGSU-Ohio Men's Basketball game this past Saturday had the opportunity to learn about the many services the program provides. A display in the main lobby provided detailed information on FREE sports trauma clinics for injured athletes, low-cost physicals, first aid certification classes, and much more.
Half-time festivities included the honoring of two physicians that have played a crucial role in the success of the program over the years, Dr. Richard Barker, and Dr. Jeffrey Laporte. Dr. Barker graduated from BGSU in 1969, and has served as a team physician since 1978. Dr. Laporte, in addition to his services provided to university athletes, works with area high school athletes, and serves as the Co-Medical Director of the Wood County Hospital Comprehensive Sports Care Network. They were joined on the court by Mike Messaros, Manager of the WCH Sports Medicine Program; Deb Butler, Director of Rehab Services at WCH; and Doug Boersma, Director of Sports Medicine at BGSU.
