BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team has moved up to 21st in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll, it was announced Monday afternoon (March 13). The Falcons jump one spot after spending last week in 22nd place.
This marks the first time in school history that the Falcons have been ranked in a poll in five consecutive weeks, or in five weeks during the same season. The Brown and Orange had appeared in the Associated Press poll during each of the last four weeks of the 1992-93 season.
In the USA Today poll, the Falcons appeared in three-straight weeks in March of 1993, peaking at #20. The team's lone poll appearance in March, 1994, saw the Falcons ranked 24th.
This week's ranking marks only the 12th week in MAC history that a league institution has been listed in the USA Today poll, and BGSU has been the team in nine of those 12 weeks.
The Falcons, 28-2 overall, finished with a perfect 16-0 record in MAC regular-season play, then won the Kraft MAC Tournament last weekend. BGSU will play in the NCAA Championships this weekend, with the Falcons' first-round game date, site and opponent to be announced Monday night (March 13) at 7:00 p.m. EST on ESPN.
