Falcons Look to Dim Golden Flashes

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The BGSU gymnastics squad will face conference foe Kent State University on the road Friday night. The meet will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Kent, Ohio.
Last Weeks Action At Rutgers University
The Falcons improvement streak stumbled as they finished fourth of five teams at Rutgers University. Host Rutgers (190.550) won the meet while Towson University would take second with a 190.050 and third would be held by the University of Rhode Island notching a 187.150. BGSU followed with a 184.300 and finishing last was Bridgeport University with 174.875.
The Orange and Brown changed pace as they began the meet on the beam. Jillian Stranges balanced her way to a fourth place finish (9.400). Jacquelyn Bernhardt would shine for the team on vault and floor as she took seventh (9.600) and tenth (9.450), respectively. Allison Swafford flipped her way to a 9.550 and a ninth place finish on floor. On the bars, Jessica McArthur led the team finishing 11th and marking a 9.150.
Scouting the Golden Flashes from Kent State
Last week Kent State edged out Eastern Michigan by a score of 195.775-193.825. Senior Carrie Mayle had a record day as she posted the seventh best all-around score in school history, 39.400. She also led the team by placing in the top three in all events. Sophomore Kristen Peters continues to shine for the team on bars as she posted a 9.900. Sophomore Jill Kowalski helped to boost the team's score as she would tie for third on the all-around with a score of 39.000.
The Golden Flashes are 3-1 in the Mid-American Conference and in second place. The two teams met back in January with KSU defeating BGSU 186.700-189.375. KSU also leads the all-time series 11-32-1 winning the last six meets.
The Road Trip Continues
Next week the Falcons will continue to stray away from home as they travel to Williamsburg, Virginia to compete against William and Mary. The meet is scheduled for Friday, March 10, at 7:00 p.m. Finally, after being away from their home crowd the team will return Friday, March 17 where they will have their senior night against MAC opponent Eastern Michigan.
