Falcon Tennis Beats Bulls; Extends Record to 11 Straight

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bulls of the University at Buffalo (7-3, 0-1) accomplished a task Bowling Green's (13-4, 2-0) last six opponents could not; they beat the Falcons doubles game. The Bulls took two of the three sets to begin the match but were unable to break BGSU's historic unbeaten streak. Bowling Green pulled out the 5-2 win to sweep the opening weekend of Mid-American Conference play.
The Falcons had not lost the doubles point since February 19 when they hosted the University of Illinois-Chicago.
"We lost the doubles point but we kept our intensity up and believed we could win," said coach Penny Dean. "Basically everyone was very mentally tough."
The sister combination of Ashley Jakupcin and Kelsey Jakupcin were the only Falcons to win at the doubles and singles flight. The two have won five straight matches at the No. 2 doubles flight since being paired in early March.
Senior captains Heidi Romer and Andrea Meister along with freshman Stefanie Menoff found wins in their respective singles flights.
"Everyone on the team, players one through nine, contributed to this win tonight," said Dean.
The Orange and Brown will spend next weekend on the road competing against the Ball State Cardinals and the RedHawks of Miami. Friday's match in Muncie, Ind and Saturday's match in Oxford, Ohio will both begin with first serve at 1:00 p.m.
