Jessica Guyer Earns A Spot On The All-MAC Academic Squad

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Senior Jessica Guyer, a member of the BGSU gymnastics team, were named to the All-MAC Academic team according to the Mid-American Conference this afternoon. She carries 4.00 grade-point average.
Guyer, a native of Columbus, Ohio owns a perfect 4.00 GPA and is majoring in biology. She is currently one of three finalists for the Walter Byers Scholarship. Guyer, a co-captain, has registered six first-place finishes throughout the season. She also has 11 top-three finishes. She finished first on the floor exercise three times throughout the year including a 9.850 against Eastern Michigan. She also has one first-place finish on the vault and five top three finishes, including a 9.775 vs. Western Michigan and 9.725's versus Northern Illinois and at the All-Ohio. She was named MAC Gymnast of the Week once, where she finished first on the beam and floor against Northern Illinois. She was also named MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Feb. 23 after leading the Falcons to a near win at Western Michigan.
The Mid-American Conference announced today its 2006 Gymnastics Academic All-MAC Teams, as voted by the faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions. The team honors 10 student-athletes. The numbers of honorees on the MAC All-Academic Team are the number that is set for the specific sport or 33 percent of the number of nominees, whichever is greater The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has a excelled in athletic and academics.
To qualify, a students-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
