BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - For the first time in 12 years, the Bowling Green State University women's basketball team is ranked in the Associated Press Top-25 Poll. The Falcons are 24th in the latest poll, released Monday afternoon (March 6).
"I am happy for our program and our community that we have cracked the AP poll," said Falcon head coach Curt Miller. "Our players deserve credit for stepping up to each challenge and test throughout the season.
"We have enjoyed a magical run so far this year, but we will have to play our best basketball of the season if we want to repeat as MAC Tournament champions."
The Falcons have been ranked in each of the last three USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Polls, but this marks the first time that BGSU has cracked the AP poll since March 15, 1994. BGSU was 24th on that week as well. The Falcons' highest-ever ranking was 19th in the March 16, 1993 AP poll.
This week's ranking marks only the 11th week in MAC history that a league institution has been listed in the Associated Press poll, and BGSU has been the team in seven of those 11 weeks.
The Falcons currently rank 24th in the most recent USA Today/ESPN poll (Feb. 28) as well, and the next edition of that poll will be unveiled while BGSU is en route to Cleveland Tuesday afternoon (March 7).
The Falcons, 25-2 overall and a perfect 16-0 in MAC play, will take on Northern Illinois University in the quarterfinal round of the Kraft MAC Tournament Wednesday (March 8). The Falcons and Huskies will meet in a 5:30 p.m. tip at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena.
