BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons finished off the weekend sweep over Western Michigan with another dramatic win. Redshirt Freshman Brian Hangbers belted a two-run homerun to left center in the eighth inning to give Bowling Green the victory. BGSU (13-11, 4-2 MAC) improved to 5-0 at Warren Steller Field.
The Brown and Orange have notched a run in the first inning of every home game this season. Junior Kurt Well's 16th RBI of the season provided Sunday's first inning score. Wells later tallied his team-leading 17th RBI as well.
After a pair of unearned runs for the Broncos in the top of the fourth, Western Michigan returned the favor in the bottom half of the inning with three errors. An errant throw by the Broncos second baseman allowed Junior Josh Stewart to tie the score at 2-2.
Both squads then tallied a lone run in the fifth, Wells second RBI was responsible for the Falcons score.
It was deja vu for BGSU heading into the eighth. With the game stuck in a stalemate, a Bowling Green freshman once again came through in the clutch with a big hit. Redshirt Freshman Brian Hangbers topped fellow Freshman Brandon McFarland's game-tying single in Saturday's game with a two-bagger over the left field fence to give Bowling Green a 5-3 advantage that would stick for the final score.
BGSU batted .319 for the series, including Senior Tyler Wasserman and Junior Eric Lawson both hitting at a .600-plus pace over the weekend. Junior Tyler Johnson recorded the final out to pick up his third save on the year.
The Falcons put their unblemished home record on the line Tuesday, April 4th at 3 PM against the University of Findlay. Bowling Green will also be in action Wednesday afternoon against IPFW, same time, same place.
