Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program enlisted 12 members of the Falcon family to participate in the 2006 Couch Potato 5K Race/Walk on April 29 at the Bowling Green Community Center.
Eight players, Dan and Jackie Dakich, and Kris Wilson completed the 5K run, while one player took part in the event on his bike.
"I have always believed that Bowling Green is as good a place to live as there is and I want to make sure our players understand how lucky they are to be in this community," said Dakich. "Every time we do something like this we make new friends and our kids really enjoy it."
Over 120 runners participated. Team Falcon was paced by sophomore Brian Guerin who finished 12th in 21:07. "Every year some friends and I run in a similar race back home to help fight cancer," said Guerin. "Being able to participate in something like this with your team is fun."
Sophomore Dusan Radivojevic placed 19th in 22:06, Kris Wilson was 28th in 22:58, sophomore Brian Moten was 35th in 23:25.34, and senior John Floyd was 36th in 23:26.92. Jackie Dakich finished 49th in 25:39.64, sophomore Erik Marschall was 61st in 27:25.18 and sophomore Darryl Clements was 66th in 27:49.26.
Redshirt freshman Lionel Sullivan was 68th at 28:00.59 just edging out Coach Dakich who was 69th in 28:04.65. Sophomore Nate Miller was 89th in 31:49.
Senior Matt Lefeld rode the course on his bike.
"It was fun to be involved in an activity like this," said Floyd. "It really builds team unity and allows us to interact with the community in a setting away from the basketball court."
