BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - June 20 Today was another good day. We got to sleep in and have breakfast at 9:30. A quick team meeting followed. We had the rest of the day off until dinner. Most of the players went walking around the town and shopped. The area is really quaint. Since we had time off I went to the Designer Outlet Mall with two other staff people, Laura Ryan and Karey Kleinhenz. Things were still too expensive so we came back basically empty handed.
Dinner was at 5 pm and then we boarded the bus to our second match against Brazil. We had played and beaten them a couple years ago to qualify for the 2004 Paralympics in Athens. We haven't seen them since. Well, I'm happy to say we beat them easily in three games, 25-14, 25-15, 25-14. This is exactly where we wanted and expected to be ... 2-0. Now the real test is against the Netherlands on Wednesday. We have played them several times and have never beaten them. They are much more experienced and older than we are. Their team has been together for a long time. They are the Silver Medal winners from Athens so it's a big match. I'm really anxious to see how we do. A win will put us first in our pool and more than likely matched up with Japan from the other pool. A loss will put us second with a match against Lithuania. Then the playoffs. More again after we play on Wednesday!
