BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The BGSU Women's Basketball Annual Golf Outing is scheduled for Thursday, July 20, at the Bowling Green Country Club. The golf outing is always an enjoyable event, where fans and supporters can interact with the team, reflect on seasons past and look ahead to the upcoming year. This year's event, however, has an added attraction, as -- for the second year in a row -- the evening social will include a ring ceremony.
At the evening social, scheduled to run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., members of the BGSU women's basketball team and support staff will receive their rings commemorating the 2005-06 Mid-American Conference championship season. The Falcons won both the MAC regular-season and tournament titles for the second consecutive season, and advanced to the NCAA Championships.
The fee for the golf outing is $80 per person, and includes greens fees, lunch, door prizes and beverages on the course, along with admission to the evening social. Reservations for the social only, including the ring ceremony, are $15 per person.
Head coach Curt Miller, entering his sixth season at BGSU, and his staff of associate head coach Jennifer Roos and assistant coaches Brandi Poole and Kevin Eckert will be on hand, as will past and present members of the Falcon women's basketball program.
The outing consists of an 18-hole scramble format, and is divided into morning (registration at 7:15 a.m., shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.) and afternoon (registration at 12:15 p.m., shotgun start at 1:00 p.m.) sessions. Session preference is on a first come, first serve basis. A buffet lunch will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with the social, as mentioned, running from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Fivesomes will compete in three divisions: men's, women's and coed. Division and contest winners will be announced at the evening social.
Individuals or corporations interested in sponsoring the event can become involved as tee or cart sponsors. Tee sponsorships are $100 apiece, while a cart sponsorship is $25.
The Falcon women's basketball team finished the 2005-06 campaign with an overall mark of 28-3 and a perfect 16-0 MAC record. BGSU won both the MAC regular-season and tournament titles for the second consecutive year, and the total of 28 victories set both school and conference records.
Out of over 300 NCAA Division I women's basketball programs in the nation, the `05-06 Falcons finished third in winning percentage.
BGSU advanced to the NCAA Championships for the second-straight season, before falling to UCLA. A total of 10 letterwinners from that team -- including all five starters -- are slated to return in 2006-07.
