BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - While Thursday night (Aug. 31) marked the start of the college football season, a trio of former Bowling Green State University standouts had successful nights in the professional ranks. Former Falcons Omar Jacobs, P.J. Pope and Charles Sharon all had standout moments in NFL preseason action.
Jacobs had 179 yards passing for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Thursday night's game, a 15-13 loss to the Carolina Panthers. He was 13-for-19 through the air, and completed a 46-yard pass to Walter Young to set up a go-ahead touchdown with 3:41 remaining. Carolina then drove down the field to kick the game-winning field goal on the final play.

He had three catches for 45 yards in the win, including an 11-yard TD catch from David Garrard late in the first half that gave the Jaguars a 10-7 lead at halftime. Sharon also had an eight-yard touchdown reception from Quinn Gray in the fourth quarter, and had a 26-yard catch that helped Jacksonville run out the clock.
