MORAGA, CA - The Orange and Brown (1-4-1, 0-0-0-) dropped a 3-0 decision to first time opponent Sacramento State (2-4-0, 0-0-0) in today's closing match of the St. Mary's (CA) Classic Tournament.
Sacramento State gained the lead in the second minute of the match when Zlatan Kuckovic received a cross from the end line and finished the play with a one-touch shot off the far left post on the run.
Although the Falcons trailed by just a goal, 1-0, at the half, the Hornets sealed their fate with two additional goals in the 53rd and 85th minutes.
Brent Petkus returned as the last line of the Falcon defense for the second straight match and recorded six saves in 90 minutes.
Despite outshooting the Hornets, just four of the Falcons 16 shots had the potential to light the scoreboard, while Sacramento State placed nine of their 14 shots in scoring motion.
Ryan Perea led all BGSU players with six shots; two on goal.
The match was delayed for an hour due to a lack of an officiating crew on the field.
Bowling Green will play its last road contest on Thursday when the Falcons match-up against the Buckeyes of Ohio State in Columbus. The night game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at OSU's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium
