BGSU Head Coach Gregg Brandon
Opening Statement
"Well, you can't turn the ball over six times and expect to beat anybody. Anyhow, I am not going to lie or try to paint a rosy picture, but I saw this coming. I saw it coming two weeks ago, we barely beat Buffalo then went on the road and beat an FIU team that was okay."
"Our youth has been exposed, so that's what we are talking about, to line up with as many freshmen as we are playing and expect these kids to execute consistently, that's what we are asking them to do, but we aren't getting it done. We just have to hang in there, keep coaching them, and do the best we can with them, because they are good young players."
"Kent's tempo early on caught our guys off balance, which is really shocking because our offense does it everyday in practice."
"We are a deer in the headlights team right now, we have a lot of young guys that don't know how to win right now, we just have to fight through that and we will."
What can you take from this game?
"We are in the middle of the football season, we are playing a lot of young players who haven't been in there in crunch time, but it's hard to look for the encouraging things out there today, but there were some, I will have to watch the film to see if I see any of those."
"There were some guys who stepped up and played hard, we just don't have enough right now. We don't have enough guys who understand the tempo to win at this level, and you just don't show up and do that, that's what it is right now."
"We are going to continue to stay the course, we have won a lot of football games here, that's certainly not Bowling Green football that you saw there today, it was embarrassing."
"I am going to look at that as a temporary setback, that's what today was, and I know that my coaches will do that, and I hope most of our players will look at it that way."
BGSU Players
Tyler Sheehan
"It was real exciting for me; coach pulled me aside at halftime and told me to get prepared. I got butterflies in my stomach, and I never realized how big it was until I got out there. The game is very fast paced. I didn't get the outcome that I had hoped for, but like the rest of the team we need to learn as we go. We need to keep our heads up and forget about this one."
What was the week like?
"I tried to get as many reps in practice as I could. I was ready; the game is just a lot more different then in practice and especially high school. I need to be a leader and execute. Even if I am not playing, in practice I want to make the team better. I want to do whatever it takes to help make this team better."
How was the first interception?
"I reacted a lot quicker then I would have in high school. I actually went out and recorded my first tackle after that interception. Everyone makes mistakes, and that was my first one. It was nice to get it out of the way, even though I would have rather not thrown one at all."
Terrel White
"We were slow in the first half, we picked it up in the second half but by then it was a little too late. "
Are you disappointed in not causing any turnovers?
"Yes very much, that's always one of our goals is to force turnovers, and by not doing so we had an up hill battle."
Chris Bullock
"We are a young team, and we are trying to get everyone to play together. We need to play to our potential especially since we have so many great athletes on the team. It's a learning process and we still have a long season to learn."
Freddie Barnes
"I feel I played very poor, however I am going to take this as a learning experience. Me as a quarterback I need to help this offense put points on the board, because that helps our defense out. I need to learn to relax and just make the plays I am capable of making.
When Anthony Turner is out there I feel a lot more relaxed but this week I know I put more pressure on myself then I did during the Wisconsin game. I had a couple good games, and I know the team was depending on me, so I need to step up and lead."
Kent State Coach
Doug Martin
Opening Statement
"I'm really proud of our football team. I think I was nine years old the last time Kent State had won at Bowling Green; it was 1972. We talked about that and embraced that and our players played a one game championship. Defensively I think we put another great game together and the offensive really came on and played better. We need to finish games better but we were strong defensively today."
"It was great to put two wins back-to-back I told our team that what we can't do is beat Miami and then come down to Bowling Green and lay an egg. They didn't keep thinking about the Miami win they just kept thinking about Bowling Green this week. We have to do the same thing for Akron next week."
On Andre Kirkland physical ability
"Andre has been as physical as a safety as I have seen in this league. I mean he has knocked himself out twice. He is a playmaker, he is getting around the ball and really our whole defense is playing like that they are staying fresh and he was outstanding today."
On the first drive
"That's huge when you can score early on the road. We didn't expect to score on that play but it was scripted. I mean if the weather wasn't ridiculous we were going to run that play."
"I am hoping that will be a start for Shawn Bayes to be the playmaker. He hasn't proved that yet but that was a great start for us."
"The play was going to get called because we hadn't run it yet and no one had really seen it yet."
On how KSU won
"I think the best thing we did offensively today was no turnovers and I don't remember the last time we did that. You would have to go back to `04 and I don't even know about that. That was a key for us today. If we don't turn the ball over we are going to be hard to handle."
Kent State Player Quotes
Daniel Muir
Talk about the win over BG...
"It is just a good feeling. We have worked so, we just have to keep doing what we are doing. We have to keep working hard in practice and keep coming out every Saturday and keep making plays."
Julien Edelman
"With the defense playing the way they are, it fires everyone up. When they are causing turnovers it makes us that much more want to get into the endzone. We just wanted to show them they are helping us out."
Andre Kirkland
Could you talk about your big day today?
"It is just one of those games that the Lord blesses you with. It was like I was not controlling myself down there, some higher power was controlling me. The man upstairs blessed my teammates as well as me."
Talk about the hit you put on the BG quarterback
"Those are the type of shots you dream about. I was chasing him all day on the backside blitz. I was just saying one time if even pulls up for one second I was going to take him down."
Talk about the first interception...
"It was a tough one but I was able to get a hand on it and reeled it in. I just wanted to make a play to get the offense back on the field so they can score some more points."
