McCall Promoted To Offensive Coordinator

Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University football coach Gregg Brandon has announced that Mick McCall, who has spent the last four seasons coaching the quarterbacks for the Falcons, has been promoted to offensive coordinator.
"Mick is an obvious choice for this position," said Brandon. "He has a wealth of experience to share and his ability to communicate and relate to the players on the offensive side of the ball is a tremendous asset."
He came to BGSU after spending two years as an assistant at Wyoming. McCall has seen two of his pupils, Josh Harris in 2003 and Omar Jacobs in 2004 earn All-American honors. Harris was a second team All-MAC choice in 2003 while Jacobs earned first team honors in 2004 and second team recognition in 2005.
"I really appreciate the confidence that Coach Brandon has shown in me," said McCall. "We have a great group of kids who are coming back to work with. Our offensive line is as good as any in the MAC and we have a number of young skill players who have a chance to really make their mark in this league."
Jacobs, who declared early for the NFL draft, set a BGSU career record with 71 TD tosses and a 64.5% completion percentage. He also finished third in career total offense with 7,389 total yards.
In 2005, Jacobs led the MAC in total offense averaging 294.7 yards per game and was second in TD passes with 26. He also was 11th in the nation in pass efficiency (150.9) and 13th in total offense at 294.7 yards per game.
In 2004, Jacobs had the best year ever for a Falcon signal caller. he set an NCAA record by throwing a NCAA-best and MAC record 41 TD passes with just four interceptions, the best TD/interception ratio in the history of college football. Jacobs also was named MAC Offensive Player of the year and completed 309 of 462 passes for 4,002 yards. He also led the nation in points responsible for at 22.5 per game and was second in the nation in passing (333.5 yards per game) and total offense (358.5). He also finished fourth nationally in passing efficiency at 165.47.
In 2003, Harris completed 325-of-494 passes (65.8%) for a then school-record 3,813 yards and 27 touchdowns. He also had 830 yards rushing, the most by a MAC QB in 2003 and ranked third in the country and first in the MAC in total offense (331.1). He was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2004 NFL Draft.
At Wyoming, he coached the quarterbacks in 2002 and the running backs in 2001. He came to Wyoming from J.K. Mullen High School in Denver, Colo., where he was among the most successful high school football coaches in the state of Colorado from 1994 to 2000. McCall also has a wealth of experience at the collegiate level, having served as an assistant coach at Oregon State from 1988-90, at Idaho State from 1983-87 and at the University of Southern Colorado from 1979-82. During McCall's seven-year tenure as head coach at Mullen High School, he led the football program to a 68-17 (.800) record and a state championship in 1998 earning Denver Post Coach of the Year honors that season. McCall also was the head coach at Douglas County High School in Castle Rock, Colo., for three seasons from 1991-93. He holds an overall high school head-coaching record of 80-36 (.690).
Among the more notable players McCall coached during his career was former Idaho State running back Merril Hoge. Hoge went on to star for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL from 1987-93 and is currently an NFL analyst for ESPN. Prior to entering a career in coaching, McCall was a running back at the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo, Colo., from 1975-78 where he was a two-time All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference performer and lettered in basketball. He was invited to and participated in the training camp of the NFL's Detroit Lions following his college playing career. McCall was born April 6, 1957. He and his wife, JoAnn, have two daughters in college, Ashley (Wyoming) and Brittany (Kansas).
