MAY WE HAVE ANOTHER MOMENT OF YOUR TIME?
To date, the Falcons have seen 1256:07 minutes of competitive action as a result of their six overtime matches ... although they have only played in 13 matches, the current totals equate to the Falcons being 3:56 shy of 14 complete matches ... the record for the most ties in a season is five set in 1979 ... in that same season BGSU saw six matches go to overtime ... in 1984, the Falcons pushed a club-high eight games to overtime with a program high five OTs at Mickey Cochrane Stadium.
COACH COCHRANE, MAY WE HAVE A MOMENT OF YOUR TIME?
At Mickey Cochrane Stadium, the Falcons have taken four-of-five matches past the regulated 90-minutes ... in those games BG is 1-2-1 ... with the exception of Sunday's tie with Hartwick and the previous tie with IPFW, each BGSU home match has seen a one goal differential.
THE MAC STANDINGS
Two games into the conference season, Buffalo leads the league with a pair of wins, while Akron (1-0-1) and Northern Illinois trail the Bulls ... Hartwick and Bowling Green follow suit with a win and a tie in conference play while Western Michigan has two MAC losses early in the season ... WMU has seven wins on the season and trails only Buffalo and Akron's eight wins overall.
BGSU AND THE NATIONAL FIELD
In holding the 24th overall ranking at kick-off, Michigan State (Oct. 3) became the second nationally ranked program the Falcons encountered this season ... Ohio State (RV) entered the Sept. 20 match ranking 19th ... both teams bested the Orange and Brown 1-0 ... the Falcons will also face back-to-back powerhouses in previously ranked Michigan and # 23 Akron, on Oct. 17 and Oct. 20, respectively ... had U-M remained ranked, the foursome of opponents would have been the greatest number of national contenders the Falcons faced under in four seasons under Fred Thompson.
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
(October 17 - U-M Soccer Field, Ann Arbor, Mich.)
Head coach Steve Burns (the only coach in U-M soccer history) and his Wolverines opened at 8-0-1 nine games into the season, but have recently seen a four match losing skid ... after dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to Big Ten foe, (then-19) Indiana, U-M has been out scored 10-0 in the past three games ... the Sept. 29 match was the last game U-M has played at home ... MAC affiliates Bowling Green (10/17) and Akron (10/24) will close the non-conference slate for the Big Ten squad ... 10-of-15 players who have seen action in 11 or more games have recorded at least one goal for the Blue ... Jake Stacey leas the squad with 13 points (3 g, 7a) while Perica Marosevic (11points / 5g, 3a) and Mauro Puzetti (10 points / 4g, 2a) also have tallied point totals in the double-digits ... five additional players have five or more points on the season ... despite winning the first two meetings in 2000 and 2001, BGSU trails U-M 3-2-0 in the all-time series ... the Falcons are 1-2-0 when facing the Wolverines on the road ... U-M has only faced the Falcons once under head coach Fred Thompson.
SCOUTING THE NO. 23 ZIPS
(October 20 - Lee Jackson Field, Akron, Ohio)
The 8-2-2 Zips of second year head coach Caleb Porter recently (10/13) saw Northern Illinois University hold the squad to a scoreless league draw ... NIU is only the second squad to hold the Akron strikers at bay, North Carolina (9/9) was the first ... UNC delivered the Zips a 3-0 neutral site loss ... Akron is 1-0-1 in MAC play but is 5-0-2 at home on Lee Jackson Field ... Akron has allowed just three goals to be scored at Lee Jackson Field but has sunk 10 of their own ... the Zip defense has not allowed an opponent to score since Sept. 26 when Ohio State put up a goal in a 1-1 tie ... no MAC school has scored on the Zips this season ... furthermore, Akron is outscoring their opponents 20-9 on the season and 11-3 in the 45th-90th minutes ... three members of the Akron roster have netted three goals this season while four have netted two goals in 2007 ... freshman Anthony Ampaipitakwong leads the club with seven of 21 helpers and a goal of his own (9 points) ... Akron will host Penn State (10/17) prior to welcoming BGSU to Lee Jackson Field ... Akron leads the all-time series at 35-8-3 ...
