BGSU Women's Cross Country Team Finishes Eighth At All-Ohio Championships

DELAWARE, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's and women's cross country teams took part in the 53rd Annual All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships Saturday afternoon hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at the Methodist Theological School in Delaware, Ohio. The BGSU women, ranked 15th in the lastest Great Lakes Regional Division I cross country poll, would finish eighth overall (203 points) thanks to a 28th-place individual finish by freshman Ashley Fischer (Fremont, Ohio), while the Falcon men finished 24th (631 points) as they were paced by sophomore Eddie Kipchoge (Eldoret, Kenya) who finished fifth overall in the men's individuals.
Fischer, who paced the Falcons for the fourth-straight weekend, ran a time of 19:36.5. Kipchoge, the defending men's individual champion in the event, would run a time of 26:02.9 to earn his third top 10 finish on the season.
On the women's side, Miami University placed four runners in the top 25 to capture the team championship with a score of 75. Case Western Reserve's Esther Erb (18:29.7) would take the top individual honors.
In the men's race, Malone College would capture the team title with a score of 32 thanks to three runners finishing in the top five. Included in that group of finishers was race individual champion Kienzle Ryan.
The Falcons had five runners finish 73rd or better in the women's race. Coming in right behind Fischer in the 29th spot was freshman Barbara Powers (Bowling Green, Ohio) who ran a time of 19:36.8. Not too far back was the duo of junior Kara Butler (Okemos, Mich.) and sophomore Carly Bates (Palatine, Ill.) who finished 34th and 39th respectively with times of 19:51.3 and 19:59.9. Senior Lyndi Springer (Celina, Ohio) rounded out the top 100 finishers for the Falcons, finishing 73rd with a time of 20:45.4.
On the men's side, Metamora, Ohio native, Curtis Farnsel would be the second top-finishing Falcon. Farnsel, who came across the tape in the 123rd position, ran a time of 28:57.9. Coming across the line just 27 spots later in the 150th position would be freshman Christopher Moody (Davidsonville, Md.) who ran a time of 29:29.6, while freshmen Jeff Ehler (171st), John Bernard( 182nd) and senior Kevin Kaughlin (189th) rounded out the men's results.
The two teams will return to competition when they host the Falcon Invitational on Sat., Oct. 13 at Forrest Creason Golf Course. The event will begin at 10:45 a.m.
