The Falcons will welcome two MAC West Division opponents in the last two matches of their five match home stand. The Falcons will take on Central Michigan on Friday October 12 at 7:00 p.m. EST followed by Eastern Michigan on Saturday October 13 at 3:00 p.m. EST
The Falcons won the first three matches of their home stand sweeping IPFW, Akron, and Buffalo defending their undefeated home court. The Falcons are now 8-0 in Anderson Arena.
THIS WEEKEND'S MATCHUPS
Falcons vs. Chippewas
The Falcons will host Central Michigan in the first of two matches against MAC West Division opponents this weekend. The Chippewas are currently 14-6 overall and 3-3 in the MAC West in a three way tie for second place. The Chippewas are leading the MAC in opponents hitting percentage keeping their opponents to a .148 hitting percentage. The Chippewas went 1-2 last week falling to Eastern Michigan (Oct. 4) 3-2 and Kent State (Oct. 6) 3-0 and beating North Dakota State (Oct. 7) 3-0.
The Falcons lead the Chippewas in the all-time series 23-19 and are 12-8 in Anderson Arena. The Falcons are on a three match winning streak against the Chippewas.
The last meeting between the Falcons on the Chippewas was on Oct. 13, 2006 when the Falcons swept the Chippewas in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. The victory marked the 13th win for the Falcons in their 17 match win streak last season and BGSU Head Coach Denise Van De Walle's 200th win in the MAC.
Falcons vs. Eagles
The Orange and Brown will match up against Eastern Michigan in the second of the two matches this weekend. The Eagles are currently 13-8 overall and 3-3 in the MAC in a three way tie for second place in the West Division. The Eagles spilt last week beating MAC West Division opponent Central Michigan (Oct. 4) 3-2 and losing to #21 Ohio (Oct. 6) 3-0.
BGSU lead the all-time series 26-21 and are 11-8 in Anderson against the Eagles.
The last meeting between the two teams was on Oct. 15, 2006 when the Falcons swept the Eagles (30-28, 30-24, 30-20) in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
FALCONS REPEAT WEEKEND The Falcons had a repeat weekend of the 2006 season after sweeping Akron and Buffalo in last year and doing it again this past weekend (Oct. 6-7).
The Falcons also broke the record they set last year against Buffalo for the three game hitting percentage record. The Falcons recorded a .553 hitting percentage against Buffalo this weekend (Oct. 6, 2007) which was set in last year's win over Buffalo (Oct. 7, 2006) in Anderson Arena with a .512 hitting percentage.
FALCONS ACE THE BULLS
The Falcons served the Bulls off the court in three games winning, 30-11, 30-19, 30-13. As a team the Falcons broke the BGSU record for hitting percentage in a three game match hitting an impressive .553 with 47 kills and only five errors in 76 attempts against the Bulls this evening. The previous record was set almost an exact year ago on Oct. 7, 2006 against Buffalo when the Falcon hit .512 with 52 kills and eight errors in 86 attempts. The Falcons also broke the record for most aces in a three game match with a total of 19 aces. Every Falcon that served in the match against the Bulls recorded at least one service ace. Sam Fish led the way for the Falcons recording a career high eight service aces.
HALM NAMED MAC EAST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Junior middle blocker Kendra Halm, native of Bucyrus, Ohio was named the MAC East Player of the Week after leading the Falcons to three wins sweeping IPFW (Oct. 2), Akron, (Oct. 6), and Buffalo (Oct. 7).
Halm's week started in BG's win over IPFW with 11 kills and only one error in 20 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage, also adding five blocks. Halm and the Falcons moved on to Akron where she totaled an even better efficiency with 11 kills and only one error in 17 attempts hitting a .588, also adding three blocks in the win over the Zips. To top off a great week of play Halm put up even better numbers to lead the Falcons in their win over the Bulls. Halm had an errorless match with 13 kills in 16 attempts hitting an incredible .812 and had two blocks. Halm was just short of breaking the BGSU record for hitting percentage in a match (BGSU record is .867 with 13-0-15). For the week, Halm totaled 35 kills with only two errors in 53 attempts hitting an exceptional .623 and averaging 3.89 kills per game, also recording 10 blocks, three digs, one assist, and 40.5 points.
This is Halm's second time begin named MAC East Player of the Week as she was named once her freshman year (Oct. 17, 2005). Halm was named to the first team All-MAC and to the Academic All-MAC team as well as receiving BGSU honors being named Co-Offensive Player of the Year last season.
FALCONS FLY FAST
The Falcons set the BGSU record for the quickest match (since the scoring change to 30 point games in 2001) in tonight's victory over Buffalo in one hour and eight minutes.
FISH SERVES UP EIGHT
Freshman Sam Fish recorded a career high eight service aces in the Falcons victory over the Bulls (Oct. 6). Fish was two service aces away from breaking the BGSU record of 10 service aces in a three game match.
FALCONS UNDEFEATED IN ANDERSON ARENA
The Falcons are undefeated in Anderson Arena, now 8-0 on their home court. The Falcons have held their opponents collectively to a .133 hitting percentage while the Orange and Brown are hitting a .317 in Anderson Arena.
The Falcons have won all but one of their home matches in a three game sweep over their opponents. The one five game match the Falcons have had at home was a come back victory to beat Valparaiso for the Best Western Invitational Championship.
The only team in volleyball history to go undefeated in Anderson Arena is the 1979 volleyball team.
SWIGER KILLS 1,000
Senior Stephanie Swiger is only the 13th player in BGSU history to record 1,000 kills. Swiger went into the locker room after game two against Akron only need one more kill to reach 1,000. Three plays into game three Swiger terminated play for her 1,000th kill. Swiger was cheered on by a standing ovation in Anderson Arena as she was presented the ball from her 1,000th kill. Swiger now has a 1,004 career kills with a .277 hitting percentage. Swiger is currently 13th in BGSU history in career kills only 11 shy of Heather Murphy.
SIMON PICKS UP 700
Senior Elizabeth Simon picked up her 700th career dig in the Falcons win over the Zips (Oct. 5).
FALCONS FLY PAST ZIPS
The Falcons came out blazing the second game in a row this week defeating Akron in three (31-29, 30-17, 30-21) and extending their home match winning streak to seven. For the second night this week the Falcons had a compound attack at the net, hitting a .349 for the match. The Falcons had all their offensive weapons ready to go with five hitters hitting .300 plus.
FALCONS SWEEP IPFW FOR THE SECOND TIME THIS SEASON
The Falcons picked up a huge victory, sweeping the Mastodons (30-22, 30-19, 30-26) and remain undefeated on their home court now 6-0 in Anderson Arena. The Falcons' offense was integral in the win over IPFW hitting a .307 for the night and only allowing the Mastodons .123.
This is the Falcons second sweep over the Mastodons this season, also giving the Falcons a 6-5 lead in the all-time series.
ALL-TIME SERIES IN MAC EAST
The Falcons lead all but one all-time series against MAC East opponents. The Falcons are leading Akron (22-11), Buffalo (13-1), Kent State (39-17), and Ohio (40-20). Miami (21-35) is the only MAC East division team to lead BGSU in all-times series.
