CINCINNATI, Ohio -
BGSU HEAD COACH Louis Orr
"This was a great team win. Cincinnati is a tough team. They play hard, they are physical and they get after you. Three games in three games is a challenge, and playing a big, strong, physical team like Cincinnati is a lot to ask, but our guys responded. They stepped up."
"Chris (Knight) was tremendous the whole weekend. He had a big first half, and got us going in that first half. We got a few stops with our zone, which was really good to us tonight, but our guys had a tremendously gutty performance, and I give them all the credit."
Are you surprised at the performance of Chris, as a freshman?
"Nowadays, it doesn't really matter. Freshmen can be as good as seniors. Chris has a certain poise and a presence. He's confident, he doesn't get rattled, and he's a hard worker. When a young guy hasn't played in a year, you generally say that you've got to give him time to shake the rust off. He must have shaken it off this summer, because he hasn't been rusty this year."
It seemed like a big point in the game came when you switched to a 2-3 zone in the first half. Can you talk about the effect that switch had?
"We knew, size-wise, it was tough for us to match up. They (Cincinnati) are such an aggressive rebounding team; we just wanted to try to get them to play from the outside, to force them to make perimeter shots. (Deonta) Vaughn got it going for them, but overall, I thought the zone was the difference in the game ... our guys did a great job, and they believed in it."
Was the zone something that you planned to use all along, or did you just use it as much as you did because of the way the game was going?
"Well, it's always in our pocket, but we thought it could help us tonight. Because it was the third game in three nights, we thought it could give us a good change of pace, not have to cover so much ground, and also make them play outside-in. We work on the zone all the time, and it's part of who we are. At times, I hope we can play it even better than our man-to-man."
On Chris Knight
"Chris is really a testimony to hard work. He's paid his dues, and I'm very happy that he is getting the chance to get on the court and do what he loves. He's meeting the challenge in the classroom, and he's meeting the challenge on the court, and it's a credit to him."
BGSU REDSHIRT FRESHMAN Chris Knight
Did you feel like you had to shake off some rust heading into this weekend?
"Yeah, I had to shake a little rust off. With the year off, I had some time to think. I was happy to get back on the court, and just wanted to play hard. I was hungry, and being back in my hometown, with family and friends looking on, I felt like I had to play well."
On his offensive rebound in the final minute
"I was just thinking about going up there and getting the ball. I saw Darryl open, and was just thinking about tipping the ball to him and using more clock."
