BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - The Bowling Green State University Falcon football team closed the regular season with a 37-10 win over the arch-rival University of Toledo Friday afternoon (Nov. 23) at Doyt L. Perry Stadium. Some notes and numbers from the game ...
* The Falcons' win over the Rockets gives BGSU a record of 8-4 on the season ... BG has doubled last season's win total, after going 4-8 in 2006.
* BGSU's total of eight overall wins is the most by any Mid-American Conference team this season.
* Junior Jermiah Kelley had the best game of his brief Falcon career ... Kelley, in his first year in the Brown and Orange, had four receptions for 80 yards in the win over the Rockets ... Kelley also had the first two-touchdown game of his BGSU career, catching scoring passes of four and 52 yards from sophomore Tyler Sheehan.
* Sheehan was 20-of-34 through the air, for 225 yards and three TDs in the win ... two other Falcons threw passes on Friday, as Anthony Turner and Derek Brighton each were 1-for-1 ... Brighton completed the first pass of his collegiate career, a six-yard play to Pete Winovich on a fake field goal in the first quarter.
* On the very next play after Brighton's completion, Turner threw an 11-yard scoring pass to a wide-open Freddie Barnes for a score ... Turner is now 4-of-5 through the air this season, with three of his four completions going for TDs.
* Following a BG fumble on the Toledo 1-yard line on the Falcons' opening drive of the game, the Rockets' first carry of the game nearly resulted in a safety ... on the next play, UT quarterback D.J. Lenehan tripped while backpedalling, falling into the Rocket endzone for a safety.
* on BGSU's first touchdown drive, the Falcons attempted a punt, but a UT defender was flagged for a roughing-the-kicker penalty to give BGSU a first down ... later on the drive, the Falcons lined up for a 35-yard field-goal attempt, but ran the fake (Brighton to Winovich) for six yards on fourth-and-4 ... on the next play, Turner faked a run up the middle and tossed an 11-yard score to Barnes.
* It was Barnes' ninth touchdown of the season.
* Through one quarter of action, the Falcons had run 30 plays for 142 yards, while the Rockets saw the ball for just four plays, gaining seven yards ... BGSU had 10 first downs to Toledo's zero and 70 rushing yards to UT's one ... the time of possession was 14:03 to 57 seconds in favor of the Orange and Brown.
* Winovich entered Friday's contest with nine career catches for 67 yards ... against the Rockets, he finished with five receptions for 25 yards.
* Kenny Lewis forced his fifth fumble of the season early in the third quarter ... it was the sixth of his career ... Antonio Smith recovered the fumble, his second of the season and fifth recovery of his career.
* The Rockets, who led the MAC with 35.0 points per game, finished the contest with just 10 points ... UT was also tops in the conference in total offense with 459.9 yards a game, but finished with 322 yards ... lastly, the Rockets entered Friday's contest averaging 222.2 yards a game on the ground, but ran for just 66 yards on 28 carries.
* P.J. Mahone had two interceptions in the game, giving him a MAC_leading seven on the season ... he returned his first pick 36 yards, his fifth play of 30-plus yards this year to date ... he also has INT returns of 51, 44, 43 and 35 yards.
* Sheehan, as mentioned, finished 20-of-34 for 225 yards and three TDs ... it is the 10th time this season he has thrown for over 200 yards, and the seventh game he has thrown at least two touchdown passes in a game to date.
