BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) -
Temple Coach Fran Dunphy
Talk about your defense in the second half
"Obviously, [Nate] Miller hurt us in the first half. He was difficult for us to defend. I thought he got a lot of his stuff off of dribble penetration. We switched a lot on him in the second half and we communicated a lot better in the second half. Despite his short stature he is a tough customer down there so we tried to help on him a little bit more."
"I thought Bowling Green got numerous good looks from the three point line but did not shoot it particularly well today. I would like to think our defense had a little to do with that but until I see the film I really won't know that."
Talk about your team being able to get a lot of open looks.
"I thought we did a pretty good job at that. Hopefully we are getting better at that. I like to see that Mark [Tyndale] got six assists, but he can do that. He just has to be flawless with that for us to become a better basketball team. For the most past 17 assists on 27 field goals is pretty good ball movement."
Why were you so dominant in the second half?
"Our switching defenses helped us, but I think we were just more concentrated on getting the ball in the right spots. I thought we did a good job in transition ands made some big threes. We were timely in our offense and that was as big of a part as any."
Bowling Green junior Nate Miller
Obviously, you're unhappy with a loss, but can you take anything from this game knowing that you got back on track?
"It is a good thing that I got back on track, but all in all, it is a team effort and we did not come out and play today with the defensive intensity that we have been playing with all year. They shot 68 percent from the field in the second half and that is one thing we were trying to keep down."
What was the main difference between the first half and the second half?
"It seemed like they came out in the second half and wanted it more than us. We did not play with the intensity that we should have. We did not get the stops when we needed them. At the end of the first half we got four or five stops in a row and got the game tied at the half. We needed to come out with that same intensity, and we did not do that and it showed."
Did Temple do anything different in the second half?
"They changed up their defenses a lot, but we took some bad shots and did not make them. We settled for long jump shots and long rebounds created fast break opportunities and they capitalized on most of them."
Bowling Green Coach Louis Orr
Opening statement
"We just weren't sharp. We had a great week of practice. The defense and the offense -- we just weren't ourselves. We made a nice run at the end of the first half. I felt our defensive intensity was there, but then we started the second half and you can't let a team shoot 68 percent in a half, we were 2-of-18 from three and we didn't show the patience with our offense. We need to be able to stick with what we do. We expect more from ourselves. I think this is one of those games where we have to show more will and in the second half we kind of succumbed. We have to shake it off and move on because it's early."
It was a tough night for Chris Knight
"You know what, Chris [Knight] has been an anchor for us early. He has played more basketball in the past five games than he has played in the last two years. It is a growing experience for him. It's obvious we need Chris, we need Ryne Hamblet. Those two guys are a big part of our offense."
Are there any positives you can take from this game because of how you played in the first half?
"I don't think we played well in the first half. Honestly, I thought if our defensive intensity was where it needed to be and we won the hustle plays and loose balls I thought we should have been up. I don't think we played well the entire game. They played better in the second half, but to say that we can play with them because of how we played in the first half -- there is no doubt in my mind that we can play with them. We expect to win, and I'm sure they [Temple] expected to win, too. I am just disappointed that we did not play well."
