NEW YORK, N.Y. - Former Bowling Green State University men's basketball standout Martin Samarco was chosen in Thursday's (Nov. 1) NBA Development League Draft. Samarco was a fifth-round pick of the Idaho Stampede.
The draft consisted of 10 rounds. The ten players selected by each team in the draft will combine with the six to seven players already assigned via allocation, local tryouts or players returning from the previous season. The rosters for each of the 14 teams will be cut to 12 players on Nov. 14. Final 10-man rosters must be set by Nov. 21.
Each team will play one preseason game between Nov. 15 and 20 before the D-League regular season tips off on Nov. 23.
The Stampede, located in Boise, Idaho, finished 33-17 and won the D-League's Western Division last year.
Samarco led the Mid-American Conference in scoring in 2006-07, averaging 19.5 points per game. In just two seasons with the Falcons, Samarco scored 1,151 points to rank 26th in school history. His BGSU career scoring average of 19.2 ppg places him fifth on that school list.
Samarco is fourth all-time with 180 three-point field goals made -- again, in just two seasons -- including a school-record 100 successful treys in 2005-06.
The Stampede will host Utah in a preseason game on Nov. 19, before opening the season with a Nov. 23 game at Albuquerque.
