Baseball To Hold A Pair Of Winter Camps

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball program and head coach Danny Schmitz would like to extend an invitation for baseball players ages 6-18 to attend the 2007 Winter Baseball Camps. The camps, which will be held Dec. 15-16 (ages 13-18) and Dec. 27-28 (ages 6-12), will take place in Perry Field House, located on the BGSU campus across the street from Warren Stellar Field.
The 2008 Falcon coaching staff and players, including coach Schmitz, assistant coaches Rick Blanc and Dave Whitmire and volunteer coach Spencer Schmitz, will conduct the two camps.
Schmitz, now in his 18th season as coach of the Brown and Orange, is the winningest coach in BGSU history for any sport as he has accumulated 457 career wins in his time as skipper. In his time in the Falcon dugout, BG has won four Mid-American Conference Division Championships, two MAC Regular Season Championships, two MAC Tournament titles and has made two NCAA Tournament appearances. Whitmire, who has been a BGSU assistant the past six seasons and a coach that has enjoyed lots of long-term success in the Northwest Ohio region, joins Schmitz once again this season.
Also joining Schmitz will be Blanc, a former Falcon pitching-star who will serve as the Falcons new pitching coach and recruiting coordinator after spending past four seasons at Longwood University in Virginia. Rounding out the new baseball staff will be the younger Schmitz, a 2003 BGSU alum who is entering his second stint as a volunteer coach for his father after coaching at Longwood alongside Blanc.
The four coaches will conduct a "Specialty Camp" on Dec. 15th and 16th, intended for players ages 12-18 that will focus on pitching, catching, infield, outfield and hitting. They will then host a Dec. 27th and 28th "Baseball Fundamentals" camp that is intended to help younger campers, ages 6-12, learn the basic fundamentals of the game.
Over the years, the two camps have been well received as six current players on the Falcon roster were once BGSU Winter Baseball Campers themselves.
