Falcons Hit The Road With Midweek At Butler, Weekend Series At Eastern Michigan

Tuesday Midweek Against Butler Bumped Back To 4 p.m. First Pitch.
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team will hit the road for their next five games, including four in the span of the next week. The road trip for the Falcons will begin on Tuesday (April 28) against Butler, closing out the month of April with an adjusted 4 p.m. first pitch. From there, the Falcons will swing into May with a three-game weekend series at Eastern Michigan, beginning on Friday (May 1) with a 3 p.m. first pitch. Mitta Making His Way On Base
Anthony Mitta has been a force at the plate this season for Bowling Green. He's currently in the midst of a team-best 17-game on-base streak, just one away from matching the team's longest streak of the season. During that span, Mitta is batting .413 with 26 hits, 13 runs scored and 11 RBI. He's added four doubles and three home runs for a .619 slugging percentage. Mitta has continued the stat line with 12 walks, pushing his on-base percentage to a .513 mark. Additionally, Mitta has gone hitless in consecutive games this season just once, coming in the team's second and third games of the year. Since then, he's tallied a hit in 29 of the last 35 games, including 11 multi-hit games this year and five three-hit games in the month of April alone.
Scouting Butler
The Butler Bulldogs enter the week with a 15-28 record on the season while being in the midst of a five-game losing streak. This past weekend they were swept by Creighton paired with a midweek loss to Eastern Illinois and a Sunday loss to Georgetown. As for MAC opponents, Butler is 3-0 against the conference this season with two wins over Ball State and one over Toledo. The wins over the Cardinals came on March 18, 14-10, and April 14, 8-5. As for their win over Toledo, that came in an 11-1 final on March 24.

Scouting Eastern Michigan
Eastern Michigan is coming off a Sunday win over Northern Illinois, moving them to 13-28 on the season while being 7-17 within the MAC. However, when playing at home the Eagles are 7-8 this season, accounting for more than half of their wins. EMU started MAC play with seven straight losses, but followed it with five straight wins leading into April. In April, they've gone 2-10 against MAC foes, including losing their first six. Before hosting Bowling Green this weekend, Eastern Michigan will host Washington on Tuesday (April 28) after the Huskies played his past weekend at Michigan.

What To Watch For
Stade Approaching Record Book
Ethan Stade is approaching BGSU's top 10 for single-season strikeouts, needing just three more to add his name to the list. Stade has logged five or more strikeouts in seven of his last eight appearances, including in each of his last six. Over his last eight outings, Stade is averaging 8.6 strikeouts per appearance and for the year he's averaging 14.3 strikeouts per nine innings. Stade is now not only leading the MAC in the stat, but ranked eighth in the nation. As for total strikeouts, Stade is leading the MAC with 75, ranked 43rd in the nation and just three away from BGSU's top 10 all-time. Stade is also currently third in the MAC for opposing batting average (.219) and 12th for ERA (4.37).
Heffernan Finding Stride
Andrew Heffernan has been strong over his last six appearances for the Falcons, including two starts. Over 23.0 innings, Heffernan has maintained a 1.96 ERA while posting a 2-1 record and holding opponents to a .212 batting average. Additionally, Heffernan has tallied 14 strikeouts over that stretch while allowing just five runs and two walks. For the season, Heffernan has allowed just seven walks, first in the MAC among qualified pitchers.
Vickers Coming Off Strong Weekend
Lance Vickers led the Falcons at the plate last weekend against Toledo, registering two hits in each game against the rival Rockets. Vickers was hit by three pitches as well, giving him a .545 batting average and a .643 on-base percentage for the series. He added a double, three runs scored and an RBI for a .636 slugging percentage on his six hits. Vickers now has 10 multi-hit games this year.
Striking Out The Competition
So far this season, BGSU has posted 20 different pitching outings with 5+ strikeouts. Ethan Stade leads the way with seven followed by three from Jackson Miller, Jacob Turner and Carrson Sova. Nate Kress has produced two with the list rounding out with one from Kade Arn and Ty Roder. As a team, the Falcons are averaging 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings with 378 on the year. On the current pace with 54 games on the schedule, Bowling Green will total 486 strikeouts this year, which would obliterate the program record, set last year, at 431. BGSU has set a new team strikeout record each of the last two seasons, registering 403 in 2024. Prior to 2024, the record had been set at 368 since 1999.
