Swimming and Diving Take Seventh at OSU Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University swimming squad finished the OSU Invitational with an overall score of 214.5 points, landing them in the middle of the final standings at 7th place in a pool of 15 schools.
The University of Minnesota took the victory followed by host Ohio State and Iowa. Denver and Michigan State were fourth and fifth respectively. Illinois finished just ahead of BGSU in sixth. In addition to Bowling Green; Purdue, Miami, and Hawaii rounded out the remaining top ten. Arizona State took eleventh slightly ahead of Alabama in twelfth. Indiana, Notre Dame, and South Carolina comprised the bottom three teams.
Sunday's action included junior Alisha Yee capturing 12th place in the 200 back (2:04.74) and senior Jen Wright securing 14th in the 100 free (53.15).
Over the course of the weekend, the Orange and Brown claimed 9 individual top fifteen finishes and placed in the top ten of 5 relay events.
Yee led the way as she completed the weekend with 3 top ten event finishes in which she accomplished new personal bests in each race. The junior took 7th in the 200 IM on Friday evening. Her time of 205.38 propelled her to second all-time on the top times list, trailing only Cheryl Patteson (2:02.98). Saturday Yee doubled her success as she swam to 6th place with a mark of 56.80 in the 100 fly. She is now third all-time in this event. Yee then swam the 100 back in 56.79, which earned her 9th place. Her time moves her up 2 spots to second on the all-time list. In addition, her 6th place finish in the 100 fly was the highest of any Bowling Green swimmer during the weekend.
Sophomore Houck, added her name to the all-time top ten list with her performance in the 50 free. Her time of 24.31 ranks her eighth all-time in this sprint event. Her time was good enough to give her the 9th best time in the race.
Senior captains Kim Albin and Michael Carriaga also scored for the Falcons in the 400 IM (4:36.95) and 100 fly (58.36) respectively. In addition, BG picked up a pair of 12th place finishes by Sami Jordan in the 100 back (58.35) and Wright in the 200 free (1:54.12).
The highest placement for a BGSU relay team came during the first event of the Invitational as 7th place was taken by Yee, Houck, Sami Jordan and newcomer Carrie Enright in the 200 free relay (1:37.16). That placement was achieved again on the Final day of action as the 400 free relay team of Houck, Yee, Jordan, and Jen Wright swam to a time of 3:32.13. The previous day, the Falcons garnered an 8th place finish in the 200 IM relay (1:46.93) followed by a 9th place nod in the 800 free (7:42.69).
The Falcons will take a brief hiatus from competition to celebrate the holidays. They will return to swim competition two days after the New Year at the Coral Springs Invitational in Coral Springs, Florida.
