"This award was well deserved," head coach Dan Connelly said. "She has been doing a great job for us on vault, and we knew it was only a matter of time before she hit on floor."
Bernhardt, a native of Chandler, Ariz., competes for the Orange and Brown on both vault and floor. On Sunday, Bernhardt put up her best performance of the season. She started on the vault where she tied her career best at 9.800. This score was also good enough to win her the event, and place her tied for sixth in top MAC scores on the season.
She then moved to the floor, where in warm-ups she did not hit any of her passes. This however, did not faze Bernhardt, because she put up her best score on the season, 9.725. This score shattered her previous season best of 9.450. She would end up only finishing fourth in the event. Bernhardt is currently a junior and majoring as an exercise specialist.
"Jacque is turning out to be one of the favorites to win the vault in the MAC, and if she keeps putting up scores like Sunday on floor, she will be a favorite there too. She is just going to continue to get better, and she is finally coming into her own on vault and floor."
Bernhardt and the Falcons will take to the road to compete in the CAT Classic in Missouri this Friday (Feb. 23). The meet will begin at 8:00 p.m. Eastern standard time.
