Women's Golf Opens Spring Season On Monday (Feb. 26)

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's golf team opens their spring season on Monday (Feb. 26) in Buies Creek, North Carolina, in the 2007 Fighting Camel Spring Classic. The two-day tournament will be held at Keith Hills Country Club, No. 1.
Participating Schools (15): Bowling Green, Campbell, Colorado State, Gardner-Webb, Georgetown, High Point, Illinois State, Longwood, Mercer, Old Dominion, Radford, Richmond, Wichita State, Wyoming, Xavier.
BGSU, behind second year head coach Stephanie Young, had a solid fall campaign, finishing first at the YSU/Taco Bell Invitational (for the second consecutive season), with a team score of 626 (313-313). They also finished third at the EKU Colonel Classic (326-323-327) and sixth at the Laker Fall Classic (324-322).
Individually the Falcons had three golfers improve their stroke average from last season, recording seven top-10 finishes and one individual championship this past fall.
Junior Jessica McCann, who finished the fall season with a 77.90 average, leads the Falcons. She finished first at the YSU/Taco Bell Invitational earlier this year with a 147 (73-74) and fourth at the EKU Colonel Classic (82-80-78). In 10 rounds she has broke 80 seven times. The Mason, Ohio native had three top-six finishes in the five events this fall.

Fellow classmate Lindsey Jonkhoff is second on the team with an 80.60 stroke average this past fall, finishing with five sub-80 scores. She finished 10th at the Laker Fall Classic (79-77) and fifth at the YSU/Taco Bell Invitational (77-79). The Traverse City, Michigan native improved her stroke average by 5.61 strokes compared to her 2005-06 average (86.21).
The third of four juniors, Carley Hrusovsky, finished this past fall with an 80.63 stroke average, competing in four tournaments. Her top finishes were fifth at the EKU Colonel Classic with a 242 (79-81-82) and sixth at the YSU/Taco Bell Invitational with a 158 (78-80). Hrusovsky finished 2005-06 with an 80.15 average, tops on the team.
Amanda Bader completes the quadruple of juniors. Bader finished the fall season with an 80.70 stroke average, competing in all 10 rounds. The Lima, Ohio, native had five sub-80 rounds this fall, scoring a career-best 76 at the Cardinal Classic in Muncie, Indiana. Her top overall finish came at the EKU Colonel Classic, where she posted a 247 (78-85-84) in a 12th place finish.
Rounding out the top five is the lone senior on the 2006-07 team, Kari Liggett. Liggett finished this past fall with an 84.1 stroke average, but finished fourth at the EKU Colonel Classic with a 240 (82-80-78).
BGSU also has two freshmen on the 2006-07 squad, Megan Gormley and Hannah Lambert. They both competed at the Laker Fall Classic, with Gormley finishing 81st (97-89) and Lambert 96th (94-89).
Following the trip down south the Falcons head west for the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational (Mar. 9-11).
