Trio of Deniors to Captain `07 Falcon Squad
Senior tri-captains Eric Lawson, Tyler Johnson and Josh Dietz bring a lot of game experience to the table, combining for 288 games played during their Falcon careers. Lawson served as a captain last season as well, leading the team in batting average (.355), on-base percentage (.469), homeruns (five), slugging percentage (.511) and walks (32). The Milford, Ohio native sports a .355 career batting average and a .455 OBP through his first three seasons as a Falcon. Johnson paced the Falcons with six saves out of the bullpen a year ago. Johnson's career strikeout to walk ratio is just below 3:1. In 2004, he posted a 2.49 ERA in 13 appearances as a sophomore. Dietz hit .325 in `07, including a .455 hitting percentage. He excels defensively as well, evidenced by his .990 career fielding efficiency.
Fast Out of the Gates
The Brown and Orange have a recent history of starting off hot, including a six-game winning streak to begin last season, an 8-1 start to the `05 season and capturing the victory in five of their first six games in 2004. Bowling Green's six-game stretch a year ago had its fair share of drama, beginning with an extra-inning win at Murray State, followed by a 1-0 triumph in the season-opening double-header. Trailing 4-2 at Dayton, Andrew Foster hit a grand slam for a 6-4 win, only to be out done by a four-run bottom of the ninth that gave BGSU a 5-4 come-from-behind win over Penn State.
