BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) -
BGSU HEAD COACH Curt Miller
"It was obviously a tough loss today. I feel bad for our seniors; they had a chance to go out with some special streaks, but this doesn't change the fact that we three-peated as MAC champions. After our day off, we have to go back into the film room and figure out what we didn't do as well tonight as we could have, to finish off a game."
"Hats off to OU. We knew when Lynn Bria was leaving that she had assembled a great team. No one is taking them lightly this year. They certainly had a cupboard full of great players, and certainly a team that can contend for this championship -- since day one, we've all known that."
"Athletics is great, in that it teaches you a lot of life lessons. You're not always on the winning end, and it's been a long time since (the BGSU players) have had to handle some adversity and a loss in this building. But, it is great for young people, because they realize that throughout the rest of their lives there are going to be some good days and some bad days."
(Are you shocked or disappointed by this loss?)
"I'm not shocked. I have tremendous respect for Ohio. They are really a dangerous team, being able to put five players on the floor that can score. I am disappointed -- it has been 84 games since we have lost to a team with an RPI higher than 100. Eighty four game. So, we don't lose to middle-of-the-road teams; it is just not what we've done over the last three years. We have not lost to a team with this high of an RPI since December of of 2004."
(What changed to make your offense less successful in the second half?)
"Well, clearly, they made adjustments on how to guard Kate Achter. I think our offense was effective in the first half because of Kate Achter. And, when they figured out how to stop that, I didn't think we did a great job of attacking what they were giving us. The same was the case down there (in Athens). It wasn't as easy in the second half; I thought we forced things at times. Still, though, when I take that group into the film room and show them our missed shots in the second half, they are the same shots that we have hit before, and hit on a regular basis. Those are shots they can make. We forced some, but we certainly can make some that we missed."
BGSU SENIOR FORWARD Ali Mann
"We had a million opportunities to tie it or take the lead down the stretch, but they outplayed us. ... This had nothing to do with us not being ready, or not being focused, or anything like that. We were ready; they just outplayed us."
(You guys did not talk a lot about them, but now that they are done, how much did the winning streaks mean to this team?)
"Streaks eventually come to an end, and you can't live the fairy tale all the time, I guess. This is a reality check. We are not unbeatable, just like OU said, and we just have to get after it, get refocused and come out ready to go on Wednesday night against a tough Miami team, and hopefully get a little momentum going into the MAC Tournament."
BGSU JUNIOR GUARD Kate Achter
(Did the fact that you haven't been in many close games this year affect anything down the stretch today?)
"We got outplayed from start to finish in this game. Maybe we didn't execute well in the last 35 seconds of this game, but we shouldn't have been in that position to begin with. We should have executed from the beginning."
(Does this loss make you more focused for the remainder of the season?)
"I would say so. You learn from wins, but you learn even more from losses. If this is what we needed to send us into the homestretch, then so be it. It is going to push us even harder. We just have to focus on winning our one remaining (regular-season) game and get to the MAC Tournament."
OHIO COACH SYLVIA CRAWLEY
"This is my first year in the MAC, and I thoroughly enjoy competing against Bowling Green. I text-messaged Curt a few days ago and said that I really enjoyed when they came to Athens (on Jan. 13). We lost by nine, and obviously I would have wanted to win that game, but it was just a great game for women's basketball. I had all kind of fans telling me the same thing ... the players were into it, the coaches were into it. I am a big fan of women's basketball, and I think this is good for the sport."
"Bowling Green is a great team. I respect what Curt Miller has done with this program. I am looking to do the same thing at Ohio University, and the streak that they've been on in the MAC is incredible. The winning streak that they've had this season, overall, is incredible. Our players listened to the scouting report, they executed everything to perfection tonight, and we had to play our A-game to beat this team. They are a really good, experienced team, and very tough to beat, especially here."
