TAMPA, Fla. - George Mason nor Mother Nature could hold Bowling Green State University at bay today in the opening round of the USF Speedline tournament. The Falcons overcame a four and a half hour rain delay caused by torrential downpours and lightening to beat the Patriots, 6-3. BGSU improves to 11-3 overall while GMU (7-11) picked up their 11th loss of the season.
The Falcons jumped out to a first inning lead scoring five runs before the skies opened and drenched the fields. Vallas' hit drove in Baca for a score that was followed by Ramsey's run on a passed ball. Senior Ashley Zirkle's sacrifice fly welcomed Vallas in for the third score.
Bowling Green kept the 3-0 lead through two outs.
Sophomore Brittnay Hay, who reached the first base bag on a single, scored run number four when junior Dawnjene DeLong hit one out of the park for the RBI and the final score of the inning. DeLong's bomb was her third of the season.
Bowling Green kept the 5-0 through the rain delay an upped the ante to a six run lead to put away the Pat's.
The Falcons recorded ten hits on the day with Ramsey, DeLong and Hayley Wiemer connecting on two a piece. BGSU also had runners on bases in each of the seven innings played.

Sharon Palma followed suit retiring the next two batters to close the fifth inning. Emily Gouge entered in the seventh inning to close the win throwing a pair of K's of her own.
